762758 2009-04-07 01:30:00 I have found atheists to be the least tolerant of other peoples' beliefs - they are usually quite smug and superior and seem to think that there is something fantastic about the human ability to reason - and that their belief proves that they are reasoning better than most.
I'm an atheist and I have no problems with other people's religions as long as they don't overstep the boundary of sanity and if they don't try to push it down anyone's throat.

The only problem I have with people's religion is they way they use it as ways and means to attack those with different religions.

762759 2009-04-07 01:35:00 Nothing wrong with fighting the commies after all they were the enemy. Commies still a problem now. Just look at N Korea testing rockets.
IMO there is no god, we are just animals like wombats and monkeys, not sure if I am agnostic or atheist dont know the diff. But I clarify IMO dont want to get into any arguments over my beliefs.
Had religious people pitch up up to my back door I engage with them had a few in tears and I think may have converted some to non believers.

762762 2009-04-07 01:50:00 I learnt from my dad who always talked to the religious nutters mainly mormons.
He told me they were brainwashed and most really didnt want to door knock but were pressured to do so.
He used to get into arguments about creation with them and would come back to the lounge and get a rock with trilobites in it. (Scored from near Cobb Dam).
He would and I suppose still does ask them if they really thought the fossils were only 6000 years old. If they said they were only 6k old dad would say bye and close the door.

I actually have a friend who is quite religious. He's a devout Christian and belongs to a couple of Christian groups. He says he would go door to door a'knockin but decided not to because he doesn't want to receive the treatment he may get.

These mormons are mostly genuinely good, friendly people. The ones I hate are those who think they are better than me because they together with their group with their self-imposed grandeur and holiness go to the church every week. It is quite ironic, as (some of them) actually run their lives back in Indonesia questionably. I know of of one 'religious' man who had corrupted his way to wealth. Now he and his ***** of a wife would condescend on those they deem unworthy of their holiness on barbecues they weren't directly invited to.

762764 2009-04-07 02:15:00 Mormons are extremely misguided and I feel sorry for them, for the whole time I tell them to get off the property as I'm considering issuing a trespass notice.

I think door knocking for almost any religious reason is not a good idea. Why force your beliefs on others.

Edit - doorknocking is bullshit.

Crikey, you're right. What is going on with the censor machine?

It's bitching.

*****.

Hmm.

762765 2009-04-07 02:16:00 Atheism is the belief there is no god/creator/deities/Spaghetti Monster.Quite different from a lack of belief.

Personally I'm agnostic, which makes me superiour to both sides that claim to know the real story.

Has anyone seen the size of the universe recently?, we are nothing, Tiny little specks of life that exist for a heartbeat on a tiny little rock floating around an insignificant sun in the middle of nowhere.

The definition of atheism as being a belief there is no god comes from those who do believe in a god, (or hedge their bets by being agnostic,) and hence are trying to define what an atheist thinks from their own standpoint of belief.

Whereas an atheist rejects belief in a god or gods, hence an atheists' absence of belief.

Depends upon which side of the fence one is on :)
