764471 2009-04-13 03:30:00 It depends on quite a few things, mainly is it safe to go over 100?

Is it a straight or winding road?

Is there much traffic?

Am I nearing a town?

Am I driving into a head wind?

Is the weather good?

Is visibility poor?

And so on. If it seems to be safe (it's impossible to truly know), I'll be happy at 120, sometimes 130, otherwise I have no problem at 90, 80 if need be.

And then there's the aggrivators. The caravans, the trucks, the busses, the arrogant safety freaks. I have no problem getting up to 150 to pass those ****ers, provided I can do so safely.

Oh, I don't have a licence, so I shouldn't know any of this :D

764473 2009-04-13 04:01:00 I was pulled over once.
The cop told me that the cops don't really care how fast you drive on an open road as long as you do the posted speed in a town/built up area, basically every that isn't a 100km/hr area.
So I listened to him and usually do 120 if it's safe to do so and have never got a ticket in my 20 years or so of driving.
I still get passed by a lot of people though.
I am from South Africa originally where the open road limit is 120 and their roads are no better or safer than ours. In saying that they do have a very high death toll on the roads but that's mainly due to the drivers that squash about 20 people into a van made for 11 max, travel over the speed limit and have bald tires all round. So one accident can have a high number of deaths.

Bollocks.

Their roads actually have shoulders, and they are flat and straight. Not narrow, windy and bumpy.

I was told by numerous South Africans that if you hit a pedestrian, you should reverse up and make sure hes dead, otherwise you get harrassed for payments from them for ever, any truth to that??

764477 2009-04-13 04:55:00 According to the piece of paper I was given by a police officer a couple of days ago I was towing my caravan at 109 km/h, and he wasn't especially impressed. Generally on the open road when not towing anything I sit at 110km/h, On back roads I drive as fast as I can around the corners but don't push my luck on the straights, besides, as I found out my wagon is limited to 180KM/h. 764478 2009-04-13 05:08:00 I have a friend who drives at speeds up to 180km/h

Generally Dad seems to drive at 100-120km/h, but we've been pulled over for doinf 106 in an 80km/h zone.

764479 2009-04-13 06:34:00 I dont believe a word of it. Travel much over 100kph on the open hiway in NZ and you WILL get caught. Its just not possible to speed consistently these days without getting nabbed on radar.
Dont really need any boer attitudes in this country.

764480 2009-04-13 06:52:00 I drive as fast as I like, or at the speed of traffic

If theres other cars around il sit on the usual 100-120 but if on a long straight road with no sideroads then upto whatever, havent gone past 220 in current car...
