859702 2010-02-19 04:57:00 You could try the realtek AC97 drivers here (www.realtek.com.tw). Uninstall all the other audio drivers you've installed first. Tick first then next Speedy Gonzales (78)
859703 2010-02-19 10:36:00 No. doesn't work. bk T (215)

859706 2010-02-19 11:45:00 I have no idea then. Unless its dead. One of them should have worked. If you uninstalled the previous drivers before you installed them Speedy Gonzales (78)

I created a system restore point before installing the drivers, and every time I restored it before installing the 'new' driver.

Every time the Realtek driver is installed halfway through (almost towards the end) the screen turns black, then computer restarts. And, when a Soundmax driver is installed, it halted halfway complaining that there isn't device found.

The sound was working before I re-installed the OS, was just that it was full of junks and I thought that doing a fresh install will be great but ended up without sound. lol

859708 2010-02-19 21:20:00 I know this is a bit late :p But if it was an original HP install there is a hidden folder on the C Drive with all the drivers in it.

BUT try this -- Make sure the chipset drivers are installed, being intel, it should be These here (downloadcenter.intel.com) infinst_enu.

Once installed download This here (www.box.net) its only tiny. Its meant to be the audio Driver for that model of HP from Driverguide. Unzip them. Open Device manager, right click the audio, update driver- point to the file. IF its the right one you will have audio.

If that doesn't work try This set of drivers (downloadcenter.intel.com) they are from Intel, which is what you chipset is

859709 2010-02-19 23:05:00 If for some stupid reason, they are not using AC 97 drivers, Page 3 (downloadcenter.intel.com) has the Soundmax for that chipset as well. wainuitech (129)

It's never too late, wainuitech; especially when I can now hear the sweet sound from the speakers:thanks. I did tried to download from Driverguide but somehow, it says I need to pay for the downloads - used to be able to get the free downloads, though. You're still able to get the free download from driverguide?

As regards the HP's recovery partition, it has been deleted, no more there!

Anyway, THANK YOU so much for your time and efforts.

Speedy, I still have to thank you although you didn't 'actually' solved my problem, you've put in so much of efforts and time!:thanks

You're still able to get the free download from driverguide? yeah I had a free account years ago, haven't used it for ages - but thought what the heck ! trying to remember my old log in and password  couldn't for the life of me remember the password, but the log in was my old email address - requested a new password and bugger me it was still working. :banana

Glad its fixed. Out of interest - which download was it that worked please -I'll add it to my driver data base.
