764461 2009-04-12 23:01:00 I spent my childhood in city suburbs so we never had to use a motorway at all for 99% of the time .

I did a return trip to Rotorua for Easter, depart Friday AM and arrive back Saturday .

Maybe of the holiday, many were happy at 90km with the occasional goon doing 120km+ .

I had my GPS unit, going to Rotorua was easy, following SH1 but it was good to see how twisty the roads were in front and a warning when I went over the speed limit .

What is your cruise speed ie . , not overtaking .

764462 2009-04-12 23:13:00 Well the open road speed limit is 100 km - and going over that means you are breaking the law - so 100 - of course driving to the conditions, if its a crap day, low visibility dangerous stretch of road - then you slow down to a safe speed.

Its the following distance that is more of a worry - MANY times the car behind you is so close, even when doing the speed limit, that if you had to stop suddenly they would rear end you.

764463 2009-04-12 23:33:00 90 kph as it is the legal limit on a 6 tonne motor home. Sue (33)
764464 2009-04-12 23:44:00 depends a lot on what load i have on and what type tires i have on. at the moment its moderately chunky 4x4 tires.
100km/h but usually 90km/h with load on.

no point doing over 100, it just sucks the fuel and you don't gain anything. will often do 90km/h just to save fuel.

764465 2009-04-12 23:46:00 Depends on the conditions: weather, traffic, road works, how tired I am, what kind of passenger load I have (other adults, or impressionable teenagers) .

My GPS tells me that I am doing 100km/h when the speedo is showing 108 . So that is generally my cruise target .

Like most normal people I exceed the legal speed limit when I have a need to and can do so safely (for example, when overtaking 6 tonne motor homes :D )

Didn't you get a ticket not so long ago for speeding in the nui:lol: Does that mean its only the open road speed limit you take notice of:rolleyes:.

764468 2009-04-13 00:43:00 In my younger days use to cruise at 120 and had a Super Snooper radar detecter on the open road but now stick to 100.

Even Today - if you do 50 in the same area, others pass you like you are standing still.

764470 2009-04-13 03:14:00 I do up to 100. Often I find myself at 95 or so.
But hey, there's no traffic so why rush? Might hit a sheep round the next bend.....
