764591 2009-04-13 05:32:00 Hi all, I'm going to be doing a bit of casual research (a bit of family history), and was wondering, where's the best place to go for archived newspapers.

I'm not looking for anything that old, only about 1982. Was thinking the chch central library would be a good place to start. Can anyone recommend any other good places? I can't seem to find anything much online.

Thanks.

764592 2009-04-13 05:42:00 Auckland Central library would be a good place or the National Archives in Wellington. The Chch library may be able to source materials from those places for you. beeswax34 (63)
764593 2009-04-13 05:43:00 Auckland?

I'm just after some old copies of the press and similar.

764594 2009-04-13 05:56:00 I found reference documents for my grandfather from 1920, and 1948 online at archway archives (http://www.archway.archives.govt.nz/). But had to get approval (or proof - can't remember) at the local Archive library Auckland to view the info. They were a bit strict - no pens, camera, etc when viewing the documents, which included names of other family members. kahawai chaser (3545)
764595 2009-04-13 06:16:00 A family member doing some research (genealogy) has found that most libraries have been extremely helpful with archives, specially when given prior notice.

Hopefully, Christchurch will be be just as helpful.

764597 2009-04-14 06:03:00 Auckland library, if it is real old it will still be on microfiche. A little newer digital. Bantu (52)
