860595 2010-02-22 09:04:00 My googling skills are failing me tonight. Does anyone know how to pop up a list of values (several columns) populated from another excel worksheet & insert a selected value into the currently selected cell?

I decided to try recreate an excel 4 workbook in excel 2007 but have come unstuck. Even something like the dropdown boxes produced by data validation would work if it can show more than one column.

Excel 2007 is supposed to be able to open old workbooks, but this one crashes excel every time. My client wants to ditch excel 4 & I thought it sounded like an interesting challenge.

You can do this with data validation and programming. There's a sample
file here:

Under Data Validation, look for 'DV0005 - Data Validation "Columns"'

I took a quick look at the example workbook and although its for Excel 2000, it might suit what you are after.

I set it up to switch to the details worksheet when you double-click in the item-id column then you double-click on the item you want to add & it inserts it in the cell you originally double-clicked in. It was surprisingly simple to do once I thought of it.
