860098 2010-02-20 06:04:00 I have a HP desktop with an AM2 Sempron 3400+.
The Asus motherboard can take an Athlon64 X2 5000+.

Would I notice much difference if I upgraded?

Thanks.

860099 2010-02-20 07:56:00 You should, if its not a Sempron as well. Sempron are the lower speed / and cache AMD CPU's Speedy Gonzales (78)

I might start looking for one at a good price.

860101 2010-02-20 23:19:00 Yes it should give a little boost. Going from a single-core to a dual-core is always a good jump. Make sure you have sufficient RAM for whatever OS you're running as well.

Ideally 2GB for XP/Vista/7(32-bit) and 4GB for Vista/7(64-bit). Also make sure your current BIOS will actually allow for the 5000+ before putting it in.
