859798 2010-02-18 22:16:00 A friend of mine is trying to save a PDF from a website. He clicks the "save a copy" icon, gets the save dialog, and does the save. However the file never seems to appear in the folder where it was saved. He has tried this in three different locations, including the desktop. If he tries to repeat the process, to the same location, he gets the "file already exists" dialog.

I've tried saving the same file on my machine, and it all works OK.

So Acrobat/Vista thinks the file(s) exist, but somehow they are apparently being hidden. He says if he tries a search they are not found, but that may be PEBKAC. This has been a phone consult, so I have no idea what else is going on/what he hasn't told me.

Ideas, anyone?

859799 2010-02-18 22:41:00 Suggest he does a *.pdf search in windows file manager or whatever Vista calls it. That will throw up all the PDF files on his computer and show him where it is. I use Ztree for this because it is faster and also checks internet cache files but Windows is OK if he is patient.

If that doesn't find it, the gremlins stole it.

Cheers

859800 2010-02-18 23:03:00 Well, that's what he said he'd done - but maybe not. The odd thing is, I emailed him the file he had been trying to save, and I just heard that when he saved the attachment, in one of the locations he had saved in before, it did it without giving him the duplicate file message.

So my reaction to that was, WTF?

859801 2010-02-19 01:23:00 So the default save location is elsewhere? Or he changed where it was saved to?

Foxits better anyway........
