765855 2009-04-17 02:43:00 The new square green-coloured ones are probably the best, you only have to buy them once and it saves plastic and trees. And they don't rip at all The better half has just made some of her own on her new sewing machine - similar to those mentioned, but bigger, was meant to be for the "odd thing we needed" so we didn't use the plastic ones - damn things hold quite a bit - muggins here gets to carry them home - odd thing HA! wainuitech (129)
765856 2009-04-17 02:46:00 we wrap the youngest ones poo filled nappies in plastic bags.

Assuming the plastic nappy and the plastic bag take thousands of years to decompose it should preserve the poo, making it a nice little present for some future hole-digging type person.

Thousands of them......

765857 2009-04-17 02:50:00 Hang about, we didn't have cars in the brown paper bag days, we used to put the paper wrapped goods into shopping bags and carry them home on foot , bicycle or bus

And then, in the 70's, paper bags into car boots.

And there were packers at the end of the checkouts (my first job!) who packed those bags and wrapped leaky stuff in old newspaper. Packing those bags was an art, unlike the mess you get these days with the checkout chicks chucking everything (without any thought about what they're doing) into collapsing plastic bags...

And then others to help wheel the trolley out to the car and load the bags into the boot.

If paulw had a bag disintegrate on him, then blame the packer.

Im with Agent 24 though ... we've got few of those green / blue & now some even funkier colored "earth bags" whatever. They're great, so many uses, re-use them twice and they're cheaper than plastic bags even! Not to mention they get you into a good habit too.

That's another thing, nappies used to be washed over and over and reused. Disposables were unheard of.

How the so-called poverty stricken solo mums can afford to buy disposables is a mystery

That was what Nappisan was for, to soak the nappies in, nowadays they advertise it as being for your household wash..........

765860 2009-04-17 03:01:00 Personally I'm not against plastic bags,What comes from the earth is released back into the earth. Wether the resulting environment is comfortable for unrestricted human expansion is not something the earth is going to care about, Though no doubt the rest of nature is waiting for us to die back by a few hundred million. I'll take disposable nappies and plastic bags over the alternative any day.

Looked at a landfill lately? They are tiny. Granted as we learn we can adopt better systems/practises but that tiny little spot of land each settlement dumps its waste into isn't even a spec in the grand scheme of things.

The real polluters have been and always will be commercial operations, But hit them too hard and the economy will suffer, so instead we get propaganda about crap that makes no difference.

The shops used to be just up road, not super markets in the middle of know -where,so plasic bags do the trick today.

The plastic nappies should be banned,if you want kids you should be prepared to wipe their arses and put said poo down bog too..
What is the bleedin world coming to?

Wow! 25cents a bag! That'll have an immediate effect - when I forget to take my reusable bags I usually end up with 8-10 plastic ones. An extra two bucks for using crap plastic bags? No thanks!
