764816 2009-04-14 06:27:00 You idiot.

They got a call about a gun. What are they going to do? "Hi sir, I understand you might have a loaded gun. Do you mind giving it to me?".

Cops normally are unarmed, but why bring pepper spray to a gunfight?

Anyway, some senior cops have guns in their boot.

By your logic, we don't need the AOS either.

764817 2009-04-14 07:53:00 What were the police doing with guns then they are supposed to be unarmed in NZ.

some police are allowed to carry firearms afaik locked in a box in the boot.
not sure about AOS members if they carry their gear with them while on non-AOS duties.

764818 2009-04-14 10:06:00 i looked at this website and there is no mention of waving around an airgun. It says these things:

Firing an airgun in a way that may endanger, annoy or frighten anyone or harm property could mean you are fined $3000 and/or are imprisoned for up to 3 months.

For unlawfully pointing an airgun at someone, you could be fined $1000 and/or spend up to 3 years in prison.

Careless use of an airgun may bring a fine of $4000 and /or up to 3 years in prison.

If you carry an airgun or even possess it without a lawful purpose, you could be fined $4000 and/or imprisoned for up to 3 years.

So looks like the police won't be able to charge them if they were only waving the airgun around pointing to the sky and not at someone.
Interesting to note it says you can carry an airgun for a lawful purpose, so if they were waving it at the sky that is perfectly lawful because they weren't threatening anyone and if it fired it would go up to the sky.

www.police.govt.nz

Waving any sort of weapon around whether an airgun or a plastic replica is against the law. It is deemed as threatening or intimidating.

764819 2009-04-14 10:30:00 LOL.

The police won't be able to charge them? Even though it says

"If you carry an airgun or even possess it without a lawful purpose, you could be fined $4000 and/or imprisoned for up to 3 years."

They had no lawful purpose.

764820 2009-04-14 23:50:00 I think the time has long past that these should be so easy to get.
Its time the airguns required a full Firearms license, we arnt in the nice 1960/70's anymore, things have changed.
Give a airgun to a teenager & 90% of them will eventually misuse it (guilty myself in the past). No place/need for these in urban areas. The Gangsta Culture makes these things more likely to be abused, There has allready been a few airgun drivebuy shootings in Ak.

-rant over.....

764821 2009-04-14 23:59:00 yeah they are legal to anyone 18 or older (or have a firearms licence)

people are spastic about guns

the barell breaks and you load "shells" into it - its great - i even sawed off the barell so now it looks even more badass

but its bright yellow and orange - TOY colours

but as i was taking it out of the warehouse still in its TOY box i had a guy freak out and leg it cause "OH CRAP HES GOT A GUN"

f*ckin spastics all of em

OH NOES HES GONNA SHOOT ME IN THE FACE WITH A FOAM RUBBER DART THING OH THE HORROR

makes you wanna melee the twit in the face with the ABS plastic butt stock of the toy itself

764822 2009-04-15 03:41:00 Nice.

Guns are dangerous, but gun 'safety' seems to cross the line at times.

I wonder if I could get a bit of PVC pipe, glue it to a 2x4, and someone think I've got a gun!

Or this (www.geekologie.com).

764823 2009-04-15 06:50:00 waving a gun around is a lawful purpose isn't it? your not physically harming anyone and your not pointing it at anyone. Some people could use a gun to shoot ducks, some people could use a gun to throw at a duck. The law doesnt say you only have to use a gun to shoot. Like a knife, it can be used to cut food, kill insects, throw at someone, pop baloons etc.

LOL.

They had no lawful purpose.

764825 2009-04-15 09:34:00 ...a knife can be used to pop baloons.
