When the drive is set to idle, then it will power on when accessed - kind of like your optical drive does when you put a disk in it. So I'm saying it's an activity noise rather than a death rattle. You disabled the idle on the drive and the noise no longer happens, right? So it's not a failing drive noise then, if it was failing you'd still hear it. |

That doesnt make sense, on 1 hand you are saying its an activity noise, on the other you say disabling idle on the drive (so its now active period) and the noise no longer happens...??:waughh: |

It happens randomly e.g. a few times within 10s, once a min, sometimes longer etc. on idle or opening applications etc. If the setting was turn off after 5secs or something that would sound more reasonable. And i've only started hearing the noise a few days ago, so your telling me out of 6months of ownership i've only started using the hard disk? |
