860042 2010-02-22 03:53:00 You could use 2 monitors.
+1 for this, tried using a 40" LCD TV as a monitor once and I found it really hard to focus on work. I use 2 monitors sometimes and it is much easier to concentrate.

860043 2010-02-22 07:04:00 I would say that some TVs would make good computer monitors but you really can't get a cheap one, for example, I recently purchased a Samsung 40" full HD LCD TV, and it is fantastic at displaying text if you want to surf the net however the set cost $2k which is not cheap at all.
On the other hand I got myself a couple of 24" LCD monitors for my main PC which are also full HD (they even have HDMI input) and you can pick up a cheap one for around $400 which is not bad at all.

860045 2010-02-22 07:14:00 Should grab one of those myself. Which one would be better for FSX? Driftwood (5551)
860046 2010-02-22 07:16:00 TBH Image wise you'd need to read some reviews on it, as they are almost equivalent spec wise...

Although the Viewsonic one has a faster response time, which is good for gaming(not sure are FSX though)

860047 2010-02-22 21:10:00 I'd also try to go for a 16:10 one, rather than a 16:9 one (eg 1920x1200 instead of 1920x1080). The extra vertical resolution is useful for viewing two pages side by side as it means less vertical scrolling. Even 16:10 aren't high enough to view two pages side by side as there is still a lot of wasted horizontal space. The wasted space is even more so with 16:9 screens. utopian201 (6245)
860048 2010-02-22 21:23:00 Highly recommend two smaller monitors than a say one 32" TV.
With a full HD TV you will get 1920x1080 resolution which is pretty good but with say two 22" full HD monitors you will actually have 3840x1080 of usuable desktop space which would be much better for two pages of MS Word or whatever.

860049 2010-02-23 00:11:00 If you want to actually read the document you are typing, you need a PC monitor - because that's what they are designed for.

A TV is not designed for this, and will not give clear text.

There is another option though: An LCD Monitor with TV tuner built in. This will provide readable text display AND a TV ability...

860051 2010-02-23 04:05:00 Win Text looks pretty bad on TV , unless designed to be viewed on a TV (ie HTPC apps)

Even on my 1080p win text looks poor.
May be to do with pixels being a differnt shape???
