Still trying to score points off each other.

765547 2009-04-19 07:29:00 Finally taken the time to read through this thread completely to see what I have been missing and I only have 2 questions.

1 why is everyone getting hot under the collar about it so much

2 is slap and tickle counted as a slap as well and will I get jail time next time I try it out on SWMBO? :waughh::illogical

To answer the 2nd question, slap and tickle must be offered at least. I'm not sure what happens if you don't but surely could earn you time in the dogbox.

Hopefully you're referring to the Herald/TV3 with that. Talk about hounding someone.

We need that "Leave Britney alone" guy to put a stop to this crap.

765551 2009-04-19 11:50:00 I think they should just leave him alone. Darryl (5097)
765552 2009-04-19 12:06:00 If he didn't do crap that would get him in the newspaper then he wouldn't be in it, Breaking backs, committing suicide, suing the media, Holding press conferences, f f s*, what the hell does he expect?

he needs to ****, crawl under a rock.Stay there for a few years.

*Whoever put the "for freak sake" otherwise known as f-f-s into the language filter is insane and needs to stop thinking they can see into peoples heads.

765553 2009-04-19 12:07:00 The upper class Brits used to have an answer

A bottle of whisky and a loaded revolver.

But seriously ..all these "suicide bids" are getting a bit tedious.
I can understand that he's under a lot of pressure but don't just blame the media, I suspect his own PR side are trying their own campaign.

765554 2009-04-19 16:33:00 Despite being asked once to stop personal attacks, they have continued.

Thread closed.

edit: As per the discussion over locking this thread here (pressf1.pcworld.co.nz), I've decided to re-open this thread. However, the Mods are watching the thread and it will be locked again if the personal attacks continue (and the culprit will join the two currently under a 24 hr ban).

I think you should have just locked it and kept it locked.

765555 2009-04-19 23:33:00 One thing I don't like about this case is the plea bargaining aspect - Veitch had a "totally confidential sentence indication hearing" the day before he entered the guilty plea.

I would rather not see New Zealand go down the path of plea bargaining as they have in the US. I think it too easy to use such a system to obtain good outcomes for the professionals involved - rather than for victims, defendants and society as a whole.

Plea bargaining isn't anything official, and its frowned upon by judges and the public. What happens in practise is a defendant will point out to the prosecution the weak charges and indicate a guilty plea if those charges are dropped or reduced.

Busy courts, busy prosecutors, only so many hours in the day, plea bargaining is a method of getting to the essence of the offending.

The "totally confidential sentence indication hearing" is a status hearing which is where a judge indicates his preliminary view of the case. Not binding on anyone but useful.
