765939 2009-04-17 07:13:00 Had a call today from what originally sounded like a recorded message asking to speak to the person responsible for the telephone account, which was me. She then went on to say was I aware I was eligible for a discount on my account? I asked who she was ringing from and she said Campus Communications. I realised it was some pitch to get me to change from my current supplier so I just said I was with another supplier, not interested in changing and hung up.

I did a search online afterwards but can't find anything about them. Has anyone else had a call from them and did they stay on the line long enough to get the full spiel? I am not interested in changing, but as a member of neighbourhood support I do like to know who is ringing and what for, and if it's bogus, I'll pass that information on.

765941 2009-04-17 07:20:00 Brilliant, thanks for that, she did have a bit of an accent - sounded almost like a Yank I think! I had been a student until the end of last year and thought perhaps it was something through Massey, so you've solved the mystery!

Jeez, just looked at their prices and they are dearer than what I'm paying with TelstraClear and they don't appear to offer a mobile service yet either.

765942 2009-04-17 07:23:00 You could well be entitled to a "discount", telecommunication in NZ is highly overinflated!

There's some providers who just take less of a "cut" than others, so you get closer to the wholesale rates that the provider is getting.

Then theres VoIP, which is more than just a discount (Xnet do $11 lines vs Telecoms $50 for example), which it could also be, but be *very* wary or VoIP startups ...

765943 2009-04-17 07:36:00 The problem for us is we live in the country and are on an old exchange that only just supports broadband - not everyone in our road can get it! We get the slowest speed possible - no way could we ever watch tv shows online as it takes minutes for 30 second video clips to load. Hell, we don't even get Prime tv so I can't really be bothered shopping around too much - we changed from Telecom a few years ago and are reasonably happy with TelstraClear. I can't be faffed changing my email addresses again as I've had Paradise ones for about 10 years now. Beemer (6956)
765944 2009-04-17 07:42:00 Sounds like you're best off staying as-is then :) Chilling_Silence (9)
765945 2009-04-17 09:29:00 compass calling cards are rougly the same price as valling from a voip line apart from the fact that compass charges you 3 minutes first when you make a call Ninjabear (2948)
765946 2009-04-18 07:07:00 I just had a sales rep from Slingshot ring me at home with the same "Are you aware you're entitled to a discount" spiel.

Not to be rude, but he didnt sound like he'd been in the country very long, I knew far more about the product than he did, and as soon as we tried to venture from the beaten path of his sales script, he absolutely crapped his pants and would say "Just one moment let me get my supervisor"... Funny stuff! He didnt even know Slingshot had iTalk, didnt know what VoIP what, nor what Naked DSL was :p

Apparently they're offering Tolls, thats what the cold-calls are all about.

765947 2009-04-28 03:17:00 I don't think the Slingshot ones located in NZ - I just had a call from one a short time ago and after I said hello there was silence then he said "hello?" so he mustn't have heard me speak. I get roughly one call a month and tell them every time not to call again but they still do. I've put my number on one of those 'do not call' lists but god knows when they stop them. Beemer (6956)
