2009-04-16 08:18:00 | Did an online application for a tax refund with www.nztaxrefunds.co.nz on Friday April 3rd (13 days ago), received a automated confirmation email same day, no 'case number' or anything like that, just "thanks for that .. a member of our team will review and respond to you asap .." So on April 13th when I hadn't heard anything I sent them an email asking the story, and tonight, 3 days later, I get a response saying "Hi Troy I had a look in our database and cannot find you on our files. Are you sure you applied with us? Can you please check. Regards *their name*" So I replied saying I am positive I applied with them and also sent them the confirmation email. Am awaiting a reply. Was a bit weary about using a 3rd party for my tax refund but because I'm a student it was only $25 with them and I was simply too lazy to do one myself through IRD. Also, through them it only apparently takes 3 - 5 days. Yea, right. Seems a little weird to me.

2009-04-16 08:19:00 | why use them when you can do it yourself. We had a thread that covered this. | Bantu (52) | |
2009-04-16 08:22:00 | Does it really matter? Like I said, would only cost me $25 and only took about a minute to fill out the form. Guess it was intended for the lazy people and not the "I do it myself cuz I can" people

2009-04-16 08:24:00 | I went to taxrefunds.co.nz, (not nztaxrefunds) about 2 weeks ago.. Got replies saying I'll get nothing (not that I was expecting anything anyway :p). Yup it took 3-5 days for me. Were'nt you meant to do something before 31 March? I didnt pay for it tho

2009-04-16 08:25:00 | My father had a similar experience to you, except it dragged on longer. He gave up in the end and did it himself. Speaking of IRD, I got a call from them yesterday. The short story is, they are a new division setup to sort out stuff-ups with student loans. Hmmmm. I paid mine immediately by sticking it on the mortgage at the time, the interest rate was lower than the student loan rate then, and all the stories on Fair Go and in the news at the time, I figured it was safer and that way I wouldn't ever hear from them again. And then.................100s of years later, what happens? So I was all prepared for a big argument about how I certainly did NOT owe them anything, but she says the owe me. In fact it comes real close to being what I owe in tax for the business this year. What a happy coincidence. I don't believe them though - after all that time, they owe me? Doesn't happen. I'll wait another 100 years for the next ph call telling me their mistake was a mistake and I in fact have to give it back........

2009-04-16 08:28:00 | Sounds like they're probably not going to help me out then right. And speedy I had to wait till AFTER 31st March so I could get a refund for the year ending 31 March 09. Wasn't getting taxed for the year ending 31 March 08. And had read bad experiences from people for that taxrefunds.co.nz site, IE them actually taking a large amount of the customers tax without them knowing.. Why would they do a service like that for free hmm?

2009-04-16 08:35:00 | There are a lot of these tax refund businesses popping up. I am not sure why, but they don't do anything that you can't do yourself, by contacting the IRD. I would stear clear, as they are just middlemen, clipping the ticket. | robbyp (2751) | |
2009-04-16 08:38:00 | I actually started this thread (pressf1.pcworld.co.nz) with a similar question. And YES while a person can do it them selves the mrs decided to give it a go. Shes just got back the final payments, paid directly into her acccount - totaling just under $540.00. She worked it out its almost enough for the decorating of our kitchen, paint wall paper and tiles for the behind the sink bench - guess I know what I'm doing shortly

2009-04-16 08:45:00 | When you go to a supermarket do you use the self checkouts or do you get someone to do it for you? Hmmm. Same sort of thing right. Just cause you might be confident/good at something doesn't mean everyone is and wants to do it themselves. So Robby, we should fire all checkout staff and only have the self checkouts at all supermarkets, correct? I mean, we can all scan our own items right, no need for someone to do it for us. Just an example. Got an email asking for my IRD number, we'll see what happens now.
