Prime Televison is currently the only major free-to-air television channel in NZ not available on FreeView. The only option for those who can't receive the free terrestrial broadcast is to pay for a Sky subscription or a "Prime Only" installation.

Both of these options are an unnecessary expense for those who have already invested in FreeView. Prime TV can only truly call itself "Free to Air" when it puts this issue right.

It doubt it will have much influence on their decision, but you never know. :)

767267 2009-04-22 10:59:00 Until Sky are willing to come to party and pay their fair share of getting Freeview up and running they won't be joining any time soon. Meanwhile everyone else is paying their fair share - IMO Sky want a free ride. Mind you, given the (lack of) quality of their shows and given their ratings are in the single figures, who cares? I reckon Prime is simply a vehicle for avoiding Government regulation...... andrew93 (249)

Although I can never see it happening, it can't hurt to let sky know how annoyed some of us are. :p

767271 2009-04-22 22:47:00 Slightly OT but I see that Sky has grabbed the NZ basket ball from Maori TV. Another FTA sport go to those who can pay. Next?? NZ Golf, Hamilton 400?? paulw (1826)
767272 2009-04-22 23:24:00 When does the analogue service get switched off?

That is when we will get Prime on Freeview, Until then its a leverage tool to get sky boxes into homes.

And I do believe Sky have pledged being able to broadcast Olympic coverage via a free-to-air channel (Prime) after the analogue cut off date so they have shown their hand already.

And all the time, Sky tells us that spending a bit of cash to put Prime on FreeView will cost money, so they wont do it. Please, cry me a river!

Why do we sit back and let corporations do this to us?
