861444 2010-02-25 07:37:00 Go into the C:\Windows folder, locate the "software distribution" folder, delete it, reboot, then try the update again, there may be a damaged file in there, deleting the folder clears them, and windows recreates the folder again. wainuitech (129)
861445 2010-02-25 09:17:00 did that, it does about 11% and then spits out the error message again. gum digger (6100)
861446 2010-02-25 09:50:00 Looks like theres a fix for Vista, but this doesnt work in Windows 7. Since the keys you need dont exist in Windows 7. Look at some of the posts here (social.technet.microsoft.com). Even tho this is for the beta, it probably applies to the RTM. If youre using it. Disable any AV / firewalls that are installed then try again. Also make sure the time and date are correct Speedy Gonzales (78)

861448 2010-02-25 23:42:00 You could try a repair, dont know if it'll work. If that doesnt work, you may have to reformat, if you want to install it Speedy Gonzales (78)
861449 2010-02-26 00:27:00 You can try running the Reset windows Updates from This MS Site (support.microsoft.com). No idea if it will work or not.

BUT I have just run it on a working Windows 7 Professional workshop PC, ( to see what would happen) then after a reboot tried windows update again, and they worked perfectly - so In my case it didn't do any harm.

Sometimes you have to "suck it and see", it makes a restore point ( even though Imade one as well) so it can be undone if needed.
