766713 2009-04-21 11:42:00 OK, back to the random stuff - does anyone else here like vegemite & porridge? A slightly heaped spoonful mixed through a hot bowl... now that is food of the gods!

No criticisms until you've tried it :p.

No i havent and i dont intend to! You must try apricots on rices (with no milk cos had none) just after brushing teeth.

BITTER!

766714 2009-04-21 12:18:00 Here was I off watching Red Planet tonight and came back to this thread only to find it has turned to custard with Metla's story. Sorry to hear that Metla and I sincerely hope you can find a silver lining in the cloud somewhere.

To get back to food I at least believe that custard is edible unlike some of the other items posted above. Are some of you guys pregnant or something? Sounds like the sort of thing my wife wanted ( or had a craving for ) while in that state.

766715 2009-04-21 12:19:00 No, No one else would eat that, Your sick. A glass of Yak spit sounds slightly more appetising.

Hey, I stick by my sense of taste - I think vegemite & porridge is damn good. I admit it *sounds* disgusting, but that isn't actually the case... have you tried it?

Vegemite's pretty salty and the porridge recipe calls for salt, so....

I might be tempted to try that one hungover Saturday or Sunday morning...

What's the recipe? How much Vegemite per plate of porridge? Does it not turn the porridge brown?

A mildly-heaped dessert-spoon full of vegemite stirred into a full bowl of hot porridge right after serving. Keep stirring until it's eavenly distributed, and there are no 'pockets' of pure vegemite remaining. And if you're putting the vegemite in don't add anything else - it doesn't need any more salt, and things like cinnamon, jam, etc only ruin the flavour. Milk is an exception - you can happily add that without damaging anything.

And yes, it does turn the porridge a bit brown.

Another great way of having porridge is cinnamon, allspice & a [tiny!] bit of nutmeg, and a grated apple all stirred in while cooking. Don't use a bitter apple (e.g.granny smith), use something like a braeburn. No vegemite in this one .
