| 767517 | 2009-04-23 01:18:00 | The warranty process can be painfull, more so than other PC Brands. Getting spare parts out of warranty can be painfull. Try & find an authorised Dell Repair agent, what , not listed in the web site. What do you mean I cant go direct to the repair agent for NON WARRANTY repairs...... Oh,and other Laptop Repair Companies dont really want to do hardware work on the dell Laptop... rant over Actuall PC/laptop is on average no better/worse than the same priced PC from the other big name companies. |

Their new machines are not as bad, but in a home enviroment I don't think they have any place. In a school or business enviroment, its a little different. Their small form factor PCs are OK, again good for a school or business enviroment where you might get 20 or 100 of them. They are just non-standard enough that getting parts is sometimes impossible. |

There is no other 22" that I know of that has the same image quality (colours, viewing angles, contrast) as the Dell 2209wa. Also the the 24" 2408wfp is second only to the HP 2475w for image quality. These are Apple Cinema Display quality monitors at 2/3 of the price. Dell, for the monitors at least, also have advanced exchange; they send you a replacement monitor if anything is wrong (dead pixels etc) and you send the defective one in the box the replacement came in at no charge. I'm not aware of any other retailer that does this. |

| 767523 | 2009-04-23 04:39:00 | We run a few thousand Dell desktops and several hundred laptops at my workplace, all on a three year lease. As a rule, they tend to be pretty good. I can't speak about their servicing - we do all that in-house anyway - but their turnaround for replacements is very good. We tend to get the high end of midrange - not the cheapies, but not the most expensive models either. We imaged and deployed ~2000 of them this summer - of those, only one was faulty on arrival (dead motherboard), and one died in the first month after deployment. Over a longer term, failures tend to be pretty rare - they generally just keep right on trucking until the day they're due back at the end of the lease. The most common failures I notice are keyboards (typically due to violence or coffee) and optical drives that don't like being ejected when in a vertical orientation (they're fine if you sit them flat however). We also have an occasional dead monitor. |

Especially not in the shop at time of purchase. I think we all know the point he was trying to make :banana:banana:banana |

I think we all know the point he was trying to make :banana:banana:banana Dell, HP, Apple, or whoever simply sets out the specifications for the monitors they want, and outsource the actual manufacturing out to OEMs. For example, the majority of laptops are manufactured by either Compal or Quanta, on contract from brands like Dell, HP, Apple, Acer etc. |
