| 767284 | 2009-04-23 12:01:00 | Sky has grabbed Rugby 2011 and says certian games will be FTA - bet this will be PRIME! No, The FTA rights haven't even been awarded yet, and I doubt sky are going to pay twice! It could go to either TVNZ or TV3, although after last time with TV3 I doubt they can afford it, so it will probably be in tv1 Sky are worse that telecom were , when it comes to monopolies. The commerce commission should really regulate them, to bring in some competition. |

LONG LIVE ANALOGUE TV. i spit at your inferior digital system :D analogue TV is a feat of technology as it uses both AM and FM, you dont get large blocks if the signal is bad, only a little bit of fuzz and it has been used since the invention of tele or about 50 - 60+ years. im all for other digital things though but there are limits to digital, analogue in infinitely variable as opposed to discrete steps for digital and no amount of error checking will ever compensate for crap digital signal levels |

Perhaps they are stripping all the popular programs from FTA to PayTV before finally saying "OK - here is Prime for the Freeview system" Ken |

The picture on TV1 2 and 3 is sort of ok but turn on the sat box and picture is picture perfect. So I am not quite sure your technical comments ring true. |

I have not had a single outage/blocky picture since having DVB-S freeview set up. Around Tasman, due to the topography there are a lot of places that struggle to get TV1 and TV2 clearly. No longer an issue with satellite TV. IMO they should pull the analouge network now (well not right now, few months), and use the savings from not running it to subsidise freewiew dishes and STBs for analouge customers. TVNZ and CamWest won't even broadcast analouge in widescreen, that is so behind the times. It's time this country moved fowrard in the technology department, and this is a great way to start... Hopefully we can look fowrard to a bit more high quality broadcasts and channels when Optus-D3 is commisioned later this year, although our aussie counterparts are buying a lot of the available bandwidth on that for HD content. Analouge may be a feat of technology, but digital is even more so. You can argue technical points for a while, but the fact of the matter is for 99.9% of the population who get freeview, their picture will improve dramatically and they can finally receive normal TV in widescreen. The reason analouge is being dumped like yesterday's garbade is because it is yesterday's garbage. Build a bridge an get with the times. :2cents: |

I equate the switch from analog to digital TV like the switch from VHS to DVD . You notice the difference . . |
