767506 2009-04-22 12:36:00 jees that post is just gettin picked apart isnt it

I was just trying to think of a situation where dell computers could be useful, my brain felt empty. IMO there is always a better alternative

Again, the word "Dell" and "useful" don't often go together in the same sentence, except perhaps for "My Dell computer was useful as an anchor for my dinghy".... :D

767507 2009-04-22 12:38:00 Hueybot3000 summed it up nicely: "you pay for what you get".

I know what he was trying to say - although I might have phrased it slightly differently: "You get what you pay for" - I think there's a (very) small difference.... ;)

I only use Dells if that's what a client has available.

My experience is that there is a relatively high failure rate with Dells, comparing against other brands that the corporates use. In Dell's favour, they do turn around the failures pretty quick (for corporates, that is), but I would rather not have a machine fail at all. Downtime costs money and adds to staff frustration levels.
I think you summed it up nicely.

The viewpoint of most PF1 users seems they're doubtful at best compared to other made-up systems or Asus laptops.

767508 2009-04-22 12:38:00 Ah but this sentence was pretty obviously anti Dell because of the context. Unlike the title of this thread which could of gone either way, which I clarified for everyone hueybot3000 (3646)
767509 2009-04-22 12:39:00 Every single one I have ever worked on, either for repair or service has been a pile of nasty junk.

Great if that is what you want, especially in large numbers, But I wouldn't want one for free.

Price/quality, There cheapies are utter utter junk and further up the scale they get expensive but aren't much better, at the top end of their range they are expensive and nasty.

767511 2009-04-22 12:42:00 The hardware in a Dell is as unlikable as the OS of a Mac? hueybot3000 (3646)
767512 2009-04-22 12:45:00 More so, I think. johcar (6283)
767513 2009-04-22 14:13:00 Cheap. Fast. Good.

767514 2009-04-22 20:00:00 I got a Dell PC for my birthday in 2006, and it's still working. :D

Although the DVD drive it came with now ONLY reads DVDs. :annoyed:

Very few "brand" PCs have quality parts in them. Now and then you are pleasantly surprised to find something decent in one, but never all the components.

They have rubbish power supplies, no graphics card in general and often no ability to upgrade.

There is also no real support. Note I said support - not warranty.
