767279 2009-04-23 03:11:00 When does the analogue service get switched off?

This is from wikipedia:

Analogue switchoff in New Zealand is planned for when 75 percent of households have access to digital television, or 2012, whichever is sooner.[1]A tentative date will be set when digital uptake reaches 60% (55% reached as of November 2008).

Ah so they could turn it off now as Freeview via satellite is available pretty much everywhere in NZ with a DVB-S set-top-box and dish.

767281 2009-04-23 04:43:00 Stop complaining about sky gobbling up all the sports TV

These are MOSTLY PROFESSIONAL sports. Somebody has to pay for the sportmens wages/contracts.
If you dont want to pay for Sky Sport, go and watch some amateur sport for free, plenty of that around at local sports fields.

And Sky are fully aware that if Prime goes Freeveiw, many people will simply
cancel their Sky Basic service.

Yep but not everybody has a DVB-S STB and a dish :(

767283 2009-04-23 09:57:00 Anyone know why the Chinese TV8 is on HD freeview thru UHF transmission but not on satellite digital freeview.
Got the satellite freeview going with set top box, sat dish, cable under house and now dragon lady wants to me to get HD freeview setup so she can watch Chinese TV8 (She is Chinese).
Another 250 bucks for a box and another 100 for a proper UHF aerial bummer.
