Then, grab a couple of cheap WebCams and hook them up.

Honestly, it works, Ive done a few setups, brilliant stuff. Naturally the better the webcams the better quality picture, but yeah :)

Its dead simple to setup, and Ive just set mine up on a 9-5 schedule. I'll post an example video a little later.

The problem is we were recently burgled by somebody who had been on PD and was assisting with renovating the roofing on our house. The young fella broke in while most of the family was at home... dodgy stuff :-/

766911 2009-04-21 13:19:00 Ive uploaded two short videos (Each 1.7MB), is it worth me posting them? I'm wondering if I should just link to them for a short period of time then take them down ...

They're really good at showing off what it can do thou (I thought so at least) :D

766912 2009-04-21 21:48:00 Chances are the 3 burglaries are the same person and they live in your street. Go with Chill's suggestion, get em on camera and bust their ass.

And really, thinking insurance is too expensive is the kind of logic that works right up until they decide to clean you completely out while you're away one weekend.

Agreed when we lived in West Auckland the guy who did our house over lived at the bottom of our street. Police managed to get most of my gear back.

766915 2009-04-21 22:44:00 There was a burglar operating in our neighbourhood a few months back. A couple of houses had been done in rapid sucession. So one day a guy across the road answers the door and there's a dodgy looking guy there who asks if so-and-so is home. Quick witted, he doesn't say "no, no one here by that name", but says "hang on a sec" goes and grabs his cell phone and comes back and takes a pic of the guy standing on the doorstep. Dodgy stranger gets very upset about that and yells at him to not take pictures of him etc promptly legs it.

Pretty sure the police actually got that guy based on the photo supplied. Think he was "known" to the police. Burglaries stopped, anyhow ....

766916 2009-04-21 23:38:00 A massive moat filled with petrol around your house, followed by a massive moat filled with punji traps. Next you would have a thousand dogs who have been starved and half crazed.
For a large fee i will supply you with onsite protection in the form of the criminally insane.

Or you can just lock things up properly and buy a dog.
