766377 2009-04-19 15:19:00 Gotta say that C, C++ & C# don't belong in the same option - they're all completely different types of language. The fact that they all have C in the name is irrelevant - just as Java and JavaScript (aka ECMAScript) are completely different, unrelated languages. I picked this option for C.

The first option also needs to be split up in my opinion - you've mixed server-side compiled languages, server-side scripting languages, client-side scripting languages, database languages, markup languages and formatting languages into one giant meta-option.

And while you're grouping stuff.... python & perl can go together. Humble apologies to any python developers here, but it is logical :p.

There's also a big question of what context we're talking about. My preferred language might be XYZ for web development, but it certainly wouldn't be my preferred language if I was writing a linux app, for example.

Easy to use and I can right reasonably complex programs with it.

Does that include a context/grammar/spelling editor?

Sorry about that.

Good point... I took it to mean "which one do you prefer interacting with, for its own sake", but you're right - there are a lot of different ways to interpret the question.

766386 2009-04-20 06:28:00 Delphi/Pascal. I started off with an early form of Basic but then moved to Turbo Pascal 5 and moved through to Delphi 7 but now use Lazarus/Free Pascal as I can't be bothered with Windows and with Lazarus I can target several OS's.
I loath VB. For those interested here is a link (www.ddj.com) to 13 ways to loath VB
