767824 2009-04-23 09:44:00 i have received a reminder notice for a parking ticket. the thing is i never got the ticket in the first instance - either it was stolen (why?) or blew away or something similar, but i never got it al the same.

does this mean I have a chance of getting away without paying does anybody know ?

767826 2009-04-23 10:21:00 No. If you could use that as a valid reason, then no one would pay their tickets. Jen (38)

767828 2009-04-23 11:37:00 No doubt the reminder notice will say where and when the alleged offence took place. If you can prove you were not there at that date and time then take it to Court. Or if someone else was driving the vehicle at the time then supply the name and address of that person or get them to pay it.

Otherwise just pay it yourself unless you want your car to be clamped or taken.

I've seen plenty of people do this.

767830 2009-04-24 08:14:00 There's a number of reasons other people may pull parking tickets off your windscreen.

1) They resent ticketing and believe they are attacking the system
2) They just want to cause trouble for all involved
3) They want to use the ticket on a 'friends' windscreen as a joke, or to see their response.
4) They're going nuts from being ticketed themselves and react irrationally to all the other tickets in the area.
5) The ticket was lost when some other 'spammer' put their advertising under your wiper.

I think you have a fair argument against them increasing the fine for late payment. I don't believe you have a hope of getting the fine dropped.
Clamping may be the consequence of ignoring it.

If you think it's unjust, then fight it. Give the bastards some hassle for it.
There are far too many over-zealous parking Nazis around (especially in Wellington).
How much are they asking for, by the way? Probably some extortionate amount totally out of proportion.

767832 2009-04-24 22:23:00 With the cost of parking skyrocketing, it may get to a point where it is cheaper to pay the fine!! That is until they start racking up the fines again!

Unjust would be a penalty for overdue fine but Globe will know whether he paid for parking or not.

The responsibility has to be with the Council not the contractors. In Wellington it's the WCC who set the parking fees so high that wardens are issuing tickets for over parking in streets full of empty spaces.
