I have used Ascent Technology (ascent . co . nz) for years and I highly recommend them . Good range, competitive pricing, prompt delivery and excellent service . Their website makes it easy to get enough background information about the goods they offer so you can make an informed decision about what to purchase .

That thread over at GP forums is good.

Ascent and Computer Lounge are generally seen as the best in the country. Both have free shipping, and excellent after sales support.

766426 2009-04-20 01:57:00 x2 for Ascent. If you order early enough, they'll get it to you that day. For free. pcuser42 (130)
766427 2009-04-20 02:06:00 There't a store in Royal Oak called QMB which is OK

The prices are really good and since they changed franchise's the service has been pretty good

Computer Lounge is best IMO though.

766428 2009-04-20 02:34:00 I agree that Ascent and Computer Lounge are good (friends used them, say they're good, I personally have not used them, they can be more expensive - probably to cover the 'free' shipping)

Paradigm PCs always seemed good though. Bought a PSU off them once.

PC Online Shop also do pretty good delivery speed (usually a day faster than everyone esle) so they're worth noting (for that anyway). I imagine you have to live in Auckland though.

I used to buy a lot of stuff from SuperCheap (when they were still on Pricespy). They always seemed to be very busy, even in person, but overall I liked them, since I never had a real bad experience (like a lot of people on the forum!) Only ever had to return a video card, took a while (I think about 3 weeks) but they did do it.

The guys I would not recommend: OCZone - for the reason they never seem to stock what they have listed. You go to buy something, and they'll tell you it's out of stock and try to sell you a more expensive part. However I did buy a hard drive off them (a 250GB from my order of 200GB) but it still worked out cheaper than everyone else so I didn't mind. Plus 50GB extra was nice.

In any case, my preferred method of shopping is to Pricespy the item, find the cheapest shop and it's a done deal.

If you pay by credit card, you are pretty safe with any store, as you can issue a chargeback if there is a problem . I just can't believe these people who paid all that money via direct credit to C1, especially in this current economic climate, where many businesses, especially computer retailers, are struggling .

Not everyone has a credit card, although with debit cards this is becoming less and less of an excuse.
