861151 2010-02-24 02:30:00 Hi, now i have the PS3 up and running i have been thinking about getting broadband at home. I have been wondering how much data would be a good start ie 5Gb
I have read 1 hour of gaming will use around 200mb of data, do you think this is a good average?
I will probably only play FPS online

TIA

861152 2010-02-24 03:46:00 Heck no!

You'll be using around 3-5KB/sec at *most* I'd guess.
5KB/sec * 2-ways = 10KB/sec
* 60 seconds in a minute, * 60 minutes in an hour, divide by 1024 = 35MB for an hour of gaming

I know that COD:MW2 uses around 2-3 KB/sec when I was checking it at a mates place on his router we'd setup, pretty sure that was a full game, but he wasn't hosting.

861153 2010-02-24 20:56:00 Really, thats awesome
I am looking at the cheap slingshot plan 5Gb for 29.95/month cheapest one around at the moment. Any reason not to go with slingshot?

Thanks Chill

861154 2010-02-25 04:21:00 Well to be honest I'm not Slingshots biggest fan, for many reasons ...

Personally I'd go for Orcon:
www.orcon.net.nz

The Bronze+ works out at being $25 for 1GB of usage (When you subtract $45 for the included phone line) or the Silver+ is approx $35 for 5GB.

Go to www.telecomwholesale.co.nz/maps and enter in your address, then see if it says when your local area gets ADSL2+ or VDSL2 and post back :)

861155 2010-02-25 20:57:00 Hi Chill
"This address is near an exchange which is scheduled to be upgraded with faster broadband equipment (ADSL2+ technology) by Dec 2010.

A pre-qualification check is required to determine what broadband services, if any, are available at this address."

EDIT: ADSL2+ Upgrade: Dec 2010
VDSL2 Upgrade: Not yet available
