862640 2010-03-01 04:13:00 I need to buy a replacement internal DVD burner. The old one was an IDE connection (and my hard drive is an IDE connection too).

I have four SATA ports on my motherboard which I have never used.

If I purchase a SATA DVD burner and connect it up to a SATA port, will the PC recognise the new DVD on the SATA port automatically, or will I need to install drivers for it?

862641 2010-03-01 04:14:00 Should detect it automatically, if its in the right port Speedy Gonzales (78)
862642 2010-03-01 04:46:00 Another point. Make sure you have a sata power plug on your power cables first or you will also have to buy an adapter. nedkelly (9059)
862643 2010-03-01 04:53:00 Thanks guys for the quick replies - very helpful. The motherboard came with SATA power adapters and SATA signal cables which I have not previously needed to use, so I'm sure it will be OK. Regards, cpg cpg (8333)
862644 2010-03-01 05:05:00 Cool. If one port doesnt work, try another. On some mobos, different ports are for different SATA devices (ie: One maybe for the hdds only the other's for dvd's/cd's) Speedy Gonzales (78)
862645 2010-03-01 07:24:00 Also if it doesn't work check that Sata is enabled in the bios. CYaBro (73)
862646 2010-03-01 20:02:00 If that doesn't work, make sure you have your SATA drivers installed... Agent_24 (57)
