862479 2010-02-28 19:43:00 Hey have been noticing my laptops fan has been almost constantly running so had a look in task manager and saw that the system process is using 43% of my cpu. What is the system process for and why would it be using so much of my cpu? nedkelly (9059)
862480 2010-02-28 20:01:00 Is This the offending (www.neuber.com) usage. Also a Interesting article (blogs.technet.com)

It can also be an infection of some kind. If you want to have a real good look at whats running download process Monitor (technet.microsoft.com) ( it shows a LOT of information)

862481 2010-02-28 20:09:00 No. I know all about that one. It is System. The description says NT Kernel & System nedkelly (9059)
862482 2010-02-28 20:20:00 Read the article he's given you the link for.
It IS about System, not System Idle.

862483 2010-02-28 21:03:00 Yeah sorry posted that before I had read the article. I found what is making System use so much cpu. The DLL is acpi.dll!DeRegisterOpRegionHandler+0x37dc. nedkelly (9059)
862484 2010-02-28 21:26:00 Was it in c:\windows\System32\DRIVERS\ACPI.sys

It is also a system file "This file is from Microsoft and it is part of the Microsoft Windows operating system drivers and associated with the CPU and various internal functions."

IF you have problems when restarting, or certain programs dont work, this could be why if its been disabled.

862485 2010-02-28 21:33:00 yes that is the file. Why would it be using so much cpu time? nedkelly (9059)
862486 2010-02-28 22:33:00 Could be corrupted files someplace, Quoted from one site: "all ACPI.sys does is power management, hibernation etc. " Some say you can disable it,and have no problems other times it "may" give a problem.

Try running sfc /scannow See if it locates or fixes any files, only takes one to slow things down sometimes.
