861539 2010-02-25 15:40:00 I am on a dial up connection thru AT&T. I have been using their AT&T accelerator (by Propel) for a number of years. Recently AT&T cancelled their "AT&T Worldnet" dial up service and instead now use "ATT Dial" service. All Worldnet functions have ceased, even the dial up phone numbers. I am now using the new phone number and the ATT Dial service. It works OK but I seem to have lost the service of the accelerator. The accelerator uses a proxy server, I suspect maybe that got cancelled along with the Worldnet service. But then one might expect the proxy server to be a Propel server and would not change. The AT&T help desk guys know nothing about this, I need to get in contact with someone who does. glendot (15645)
861540 2010-02-25 17:53:00 Hey as this is a New Zealand forum I doubt anyone will be able to help you with this problem. CYaBro (73)
861541 2010-02-25 20:57:00 Many ISP's are discontinuing their "accelerator" services, which realistically (mostly) just compress images on-the-fly. As people switch to Broadband there's less of a need to maintain those kinds of products.

There are 3rd party ones out there that you could try, but as CYaBro suggested this is an NZ forum, so US-specific things are generally out of our league.

However, with that in mind, welcome to PressF1 :)

861542 2010-02-26 17:08:00 I took a chance on posting to the NZ forum. I couldnt find any others. AT&T is horrible at providing services to answer problems. Thanks anyways. glendot (15645)
861543 2010-02-26 18:45:00 Yeah even us in NZ know that ;)

Try something like this:
download.cnet.com

861544 2010-02-27 00:29:00 You could also try using the Opera browser with Turbo enabled - that should achieve the same effect, although note that it does route your browsing via Opera's proxy servers. Erayd (23)
