Yea... this is why all the jobs in the I.T. industry are after people with experience.

They don't want someone 'trying something new' on the network and possibly having it go wrong resulting in a lot of downtime for the business.

Unfortunatly in todays I.T. world it is really hard to get a job where they don't mind you 'stuffing things up' a bit while you are learning and practicing to get it better.

Some jobs/fields require a lot of formal education (uni etc) before starting out and gaining experience - whereas others you can pick up on the job and as you go along.
Compare a brain surgeon and a builder for example...

768937 2009-04-28 07:00:00 I know nothing about computers or IT. If a computer plays up too much at work I smash them around and throw them in the skip bin.
However if I ever wanted to be a IT person the first and foremost thing I would do is go to polytech or universisty and get a qualification in the IT sector which interested me the most.
Then and only then would I try looking for a job because at the mo jobs in every occupation are as rare as sun in Invercargill.

- engineers build 3D models using computer software
- architects build 3D models of buildings, landscapes etc
- special effects studios like Weta do 3D animation
Or even building 3D models that are related to the medical field! In silico modelling of a drug compound, for instance.

768940 2009-04-28 22:53:00 Some the above posters have offended me . All I did was ask a simple question as to how easy it is to get a job in the IT industry . Then one poster asks what Im interested in and I replyed fixing PC's and flight simulator .

You need a thick skin when you hang around here asking questions  I have worked in the IT industry for 30 years and some days I would say forget it, things change too quickly, go and get a plumbing job (or similar) . Some days are much better and I would say, join us, its exciting .

I recommend you see what skills are in demand at the moment (even though we are in a downturn) and see if any interest you . Visit recruitment agency websites, they see what jobs are being advertised . You may need to get a degree to get your foot in the door (actually your cv not culled out cos you don't have one) . Industry qualifications can help like Microsoft certification etc etc .

It can be really hard to get that foot in the door but you need to be persistent especially if you are not the "best of the best" (as I read elsewhere here) .

Good luck .
