768304 2009-04-26 01:18:00 Your the only person to mention glory. And honouring the dead has nothing to do with glorifying or celebrating the act of war.

I think the best way to honour the dead of the Gallipoli Campaign is by deploring the breathtaking shortsightedness and incompetence of the ranking officers who screwed things up so comprehensively.

768305 2009-04-26 01:30:00 You have any personal issues with Anzac day Deane?
I cant see how a day of remembering could be so snarky.

No one is in denial about the reality of war, The stupid decisions made, The unnecessary loss of life and the fact the America invading other countries is every bit as wrong as when anyone does it, however, Anzac day is for honouring the ANZACs so go **** yourself.

It seems Metla has been banned for voicing an opinion, which I was told that this forum and thread were about. Double standards do I see:eek:

"I understand this is sensitive and personal subject for many, but pctek was merely giving her opinion. This is no reason to ban a person."

Double standards you do not see. Instead, twisting of words to suit ones needs do we see

I figured this thread was about remembering/respecting those who fought for their country, who fought for loyalty, and the various other reasons.
And this forum being what it is, was a a place where one could air ones opinion about the wars, and how they had affected them (or their families).

Little did I realise it would decline to the point where little kids would start attempting to bully, name call, and point the finger at other little kids because they had a view and actually had the balls to air it.

And you lot call yourselves adults? These are schoolyard tactics f f s.

Incidentally Andrew, I am sure Metla can look after himself when he gets back

Every year since I was a boy I have celebrated ANZAC Day. I have attended several dawn parades and I have immense respect for the bravery of the men who climbed out of the trenches in the face of almost certain death - knowing that their bodies, like those of their comrades, would be left on the ground to rot and bloat for days on end until they turned black.

Every year since I was a boy I have seen the documentaries that air at this time of year about the ANZACs and the Gallipoli Campaign - and after a while, after seeing so many times the historical accounts of the immense stupidity and incompetence of the commanders - I got angry.

I got angry because they died so unnecessarily and so pointlessly. To me, this anger is what honours their memory the most.

To simply remember, without asking the questions about why and how, is in my opinion an empty and a lifeless remembrance.
