862244 2010-02-28 22:21:00 Yes, I am wondering if it will be worth the effort/expence. Driftwood (5551)
862245 2010-02-28 23:06:00 Well install it anyway. You'll soon find out Speedy Gonzales (78)
862246 2010-03-01 02:45:00 Will it still be dual channel if it dosent recognise all the memory.

It depends on what you mean by "it", if "it" is Windows then yes, "it" will still be dual channel, if "it" is your motherboard, then maybe not.

Also, just a warning, I downgraded one of my machines to Win 7 Ultimate 32bit and Windows 7 said only 2GB (of 4) was usable, so it might be a mixed bag, you should probably stick with 2GB, an extra 1 - 1.5GB (if it works at all) is not going to make a noticable difference.

Maybe you could try ReadyBoost instead? buy a Corsair Voyager GT (16GB is about $100) and set it up as a ReadyBoost drive.

862247 2010-03-01 03:22:00 The board will run it dual channel fine.

If you are using 32-Bit OS, you won't be able to use the full 4GB though.

I think it would be worth it, 1.5GB extra RAM is no joke

862248 2010-03-01 03:22:00 Thanks for all the advice. I've got a 4GB set on the way. As speedy said, I'll soon find out. Driftwood (5551)
862249 2010-03-01 06:31:00 I read once that 64bit eats a bit more for itself than 32bit, so 4GB didn't necessarily work out better but it said if you had 6GB it was good.

Okay, time to hide .... :D

862250 2010-03-05 01:08:00 Just an update.
Memory has arrived & is installed.
Shows as 4GB in system.
Ran CPUZ & shows up as 4GB dual channel.

862251 2010-03-05 01:42:00 Yes, but Windows 32bit will not be able to use it all; unless you run some fancy add-on software that could cost more tha a conversion to 64-bit. PENTIUM (426)
862252 2010-03-05 03:09:00 Interesting, this is a dual boot system & when I booted into XP pro, only 3.5GB showed up in system. I guess Vista see's it differently. Driftwood (5551)

Vista seeing it and Vista using it are two seperate issues.

Vista doesn't have anything to do with it being dual channel or not, that's all handled by your motherboard/BIOS. Vista takes whatever bandwidth it's given.

As Agent_24 said, the extra 1.5 will stand you in good stead anyway. The extra 512MB is just a nice to have.
