2009-04-30 07:19:00 Is there any truth to the fact that the lag from US based servers to NZ does affect online gameplay? or does it not and it's a player reaction problem? toonttm (14853)
2009-04-30 07:52:00 That's absolutely true - you will get a noticible lag. Admittedly not a huge amount, but enough to make a difference. If you can, use a local server - especially for e.g. FPS games, where every millisecond counts. Erayd (23)
2009-04-30 09:05:00 In online gaming, lag is a term used to describe delays between the action of players and the reaction of the server (and vice versa). Although it is commonly used to refer to delays caused by high latency, it is occasionally used to describe delays caused by insufficient processing power in the client and/or server. While all communication between a client and server, or even between hardware components in the same machine, will experience a certain amount of lag, the term is usually reserved for delays noticeable to the user. The tolerance for lag depends heavily on the type of game. For instance, a strategy game with a low pace may have a high threshold or even be mostly unaffected by high delays (> 1 seconds), whereas a first-person shooter with a considerably higher pace may require significantly lower delay (< 100 msec) to be able to provide satisfying gameplay. selenaeden (14867)
2009-05-01 00:15:00 Yep was watching my daughter play her Nintendo Wii with Super Smash Bros against two from New York and one from god knows where, and i couldnt bare to play with that sort of lag. It sucks:mad: Gobe1 (6290)
2009-05-02 03:16:00 i first noticed this in age of conan snd slightly in COD4. Last night I was playing wwii online and when it got to peak period I could sneak up and shoot someone, then try and manoeuver as I watched the other player finally notice me and prepare to kill me. I die then see that I am (posthumously?) awarded the kill. toonttm (14853)
