863056 2010-03-02 05:10:00 I have a new laptop that I'm setting up for work and had the choice when starting it up of Win 7 Home premium 32 or 64 bit. I went with 64bit which it's installed however I have one program I need to use that uses a single wire USB device and the 32bit driver is not supported.

I've created the backup disks for the laptop ( Toshiba ), can I reinstall the OS and choose the 32Bit version or does Wainui's link to the XP compatibility solve this problem?
The program runs fine, it's a hardware issue and I need to be able to install this USB device.

863057 2010-03-02 05:22:00 Does 7 not find a driver for it after running updates? What is the device?, single wire? SolMiester (139)
863058 2010-03-02 08:24:00 Yep single wire USB device

Install disk for the program only has a 32 Bit version.

Win 7 64Bit spits the dummy at the supplied driver.

863059 2010-03-02 09:31:00 The recovery Disks you made, as long as they are the full ones, then it should put the Laptop back to brand new, and give you the option ( again) to install 32 or 64 Bit. wainuitech (129)
863060 2010-03-02 09:59:00 XP Mode uses 32-bit WinXP, and 32-bit XP Drivers work :) Chilling_Silence (9)
863061 2010-03-02 19:39:00 does Wainui's link to the XP compatibility solve this problem?

It's not a hardware issue - its a driver issue, which is software.

Why not go try Wainuis fix?

863062 2010-03-03 00:10:00 Sometimes In XP Mode, not all USB devices will auto detect, you may need to click on the drop down box up top (USB) and locate the device, then it will install drivers, or ask for them.

Other times you have to share a USB device (via W7) then it will pick it up as well.

863063 2010-03-03 01:10:00 I use WMWare 7 Workstation and it's USB support is good. KiwiTT_NZ (233)
863064 2010-03-03 09:28:00 Update

Tried it with a 64Bit driver last night ( from the same co that makes the 32bit driver ) - No go.

Tried an install on Win 7 32 Bit and it saw the hardware but it still didn't work.

Also tried to fool it by dropping the XP/Vista drivers in over the top and it still wouldn't detect.

Seems the problem runs deeper in Win7 as it works fine under XP & Vista
