770123 2009-05-05 04:04:00 we have found that the more heavily used the phone is the more loss in quality is experienced, I hate phones so avoid using mine, Its little more then a glorified time piece, after a couple of years its still in alright condition, Never drops a call, always rings, audio is as new.

A couple of the pratts at work are always finding excuses to ring up other twats and talk on the phone to look important, Couple with the dusty enviorment and being used 10 or so times a day and getting dropped a few times a month they get about 8 months, then the phones are dropping calls, Ignoring calls, getting bad connections, and generally failing. They are dead within a year.

The boss's phone never stops ringing, ever, well perhaps at night, Its not uncommen for it to ring everytime he finishes a call, and to have 3 messages waiting.

Phones last him about 6 months max.Within about 2 months they are munted.

770124 2009-05-05 04:06:00 Has anyone read the Statement of Claim submitted by Vodafone (www.geekzone.co.nz)? If so, what are your thoughts (in addition to the ones already discussed on Geekzone)?

Isn't this a similar situation to your next door neighbour building a house next door, which the council has approved, but it interfers with the amount of light your own house gets, so your house is in shade most of the day. Thus it affects the value of your house. In that case you would have a dispute with the council, for approving the house, rather than the neighbour, who had done everything right. Vodafone are going after the wrong people.

(Over-)Using them as they are intended to be used is not the only thing that munts a phone.

Big round black rubber things at 15-50km/h repeatedly do a solid job too!

770126 2009-05-06 00:40:00 my mistake - i thought telecom was a SOE.......

Vodafone even said in court today they will "accomodate" for the customers already on the XT network - are they actually saying they want the network themselves????

What else will backfire on Vodafone is why did they wait till 13 days before launch instead of immediately when the issues came up 5 months ago?

Vodafone lost customers and they blame telecom - look inside yourself first matey...

I'm really looking forward to this launch....are the telecom shops opening late that night since the launch is 630pm? (why 630????? why not 10am...) telecom staff gonna love the overtime pay that day...

770127 2009-05-06 02:41:00 It seems that the media has missed the point that has been brouht up by vodafone, that emergency phone calls have been put at risk becuase of this. Vodafone has known for many months about this problem, and that it could affect 111 calls, so potentially they have put the lives of NZers at risk, by not disclosing this problem to their cusomters earlier. People rely on their phones as a life line. I wonder how many 111 calls have been dropped or not got through. robbyp (2751)

I really doubt the more you use the phone the more loss in quality it becomes.

I have had friends that have use a phone thats more than 4 years old and it still has the same quality

No, but the number of phones on the network and the amount of demand from those phones is going to cause issues, if the network isn't robust enogh, with enough capacity. It appears that vodafone has been having these problems since the iphone 3G came out, which could be a possible cause for some problems. Mobile providers all around the world have been having problems catering to the high demands of the iphone, which uses a lot of data and is constantly connected to the network.

770130 2009-05-06 05:30:00 doesnt this equal to a slipup by telecom...as lawyer basically says telecom network is interfering? but exclusive rights in nz - i think thats stupid...
and i think the main arguement is whos to pay for the filters on the networks to stop interference....vodafone wants telecom to pay all = $4million...
i reckon both should shut up and pay half each....

Vodafone wants to act as if they held a patent on radio telecommunications in New Zealand and not act in proper competition," said Jagose.

He did not dispute that Telecom's XT network was interfering with Vodafone's network, but questioned the timing of Vodafone's litigation.

Referring to the fact Vodafone has known for months about the interference, and Telecom's imminent launch of its new network, Jagose said "it doesn't do" for Vodafone to not have known about possible problems much sooner.

"If Telecom walked in eyes wide open, Vodafone walked in with eyes wide shut," quipped Jagose.

Not only your friends phones, But your friends themselves wouldn't last 6 months in the environment our gear is expected to withstand. My phone was just replaced as it failed the bounce test from a 5 story structure. But I suppose your friend with his 4 year old phone doesn't really get the chance to answer his phone while perched on a 5 story building.

Lets not compare your friends phone with anything I have put forward.

Ernie Newman on breakfast today said that this is just like a tree on a property, that was overhanging a neighbours section. Normally you go halves on pruning that tree to give the neighbours more light, which is the fair and reasonable thing to do, and it should be dealt with between those two neighbours, not dragged into court.
