| 770207 | 2009-05-28 02:37:00 | Well, I promised to report back, so here goes: My experience with Bay Audiology has been fine - no undue pressure, good explanations etc. I've had the aids for 2 weeks now, and the experience has been a good one, on balance. They've stopped mumbling on the TV, which is good except there are now more occasions when I want to throw something at the screen :). Things around the house like the microwave beep and the phone ringing are distinctly louder. I am much more aware of all sorts of odd noises - like water running down the waste pipe, for instance. Conversations and talking in a crowd are better, but not as much as maybe I expected. The oddest thing has been the sound of my own voice - it seems to have a sort of metallic edge, and the s-type sounds are very sibilant. One thing that has happened is that my tinnitus seems to have diminished somewhat. I had a follow up at Bay Audiology yesterday, and she seemed to think my experiences were pretty typical, and as time went on I would be less aware of the extraneous noises as my brain adjusted to them - ditto the sound of my voice. I'm back there again in a couple of weeks for another follow-up. |
