770615 2009-05-03 23:27:00 How would one record into .mkv? That seems to be the most widely used format for HD TV content.

45mins is about 1.09GB it seems, I'm pretty sure that's 720p. (using the new prison break episodes as an example here)

Sorry you can't record to MKV. You'll have to record it, then convert it. But since our Freeview HD is already in H.264 format I;m not sure what benefit you will get out of it. The other HD stuff you are seeing is converted from MPEG2 HD.

The only thing I know of that can convert out Freeview HD to something else is Handbrake.

Yeah trouble is, most of these apps have never seen our sound scheme. Try it....but I'd be very surprised if it worked.

770618 2009-05-04 00:51:00 Sound scheme?

Well I'm using Videostudio pro and editing it now. So far, so good.

I dont think programs care what the sound is, just as long as the program can load the format you've recorded whatever in, it will edit it. And play it, with sound

770619 2009-05-04 00:54:00 And for editing good luck....there isn't anything that can at the moment, our DVB-T format is so bleeding edge that software hasn't caught up with it yet.

Quite so... I seem to have tried all things. My Pinnacle tuner only saves as a .ts file I have tried eveything with mux, demux on google, Nero, "Power whatever it was," Pinnacle, Ulead....and Uncle Tom Cobley and all!!

One day that bloke Someone will come up with a solution. I think that the TV companies are completely paranoid about anyone being able to edit HDTV. Unfortunately, a lot of innocent people have to pay the price of the pirates freebies. :crying :groan: :angry

Ken

PS if anyone wants to have a go to see if they have a program that will do it, I am happy to email a small HD captured file for them to try. Around 10MB or so.

THere was someone on Geekzone that came up with an elaborate ts muxing scheme where they managed to edit stuff, it it was way harder than just loading up a file in videoredo and chopping out the ads.

And Speedy, these program really do care about the sound scheme (HE-AAC-LC) since normally they have to demux, convert video and remux....if they don't understand what the sound is they can sometimes mux it back in raw, but generally will just drop the sound.

770621 2009-05-04 01:06:00 Well that may depend on WHAT format your tuner records in. Mine doesnt record in ts or whatever strange format. It records in MP4. Which would probably be easier to load (and edit) than ts files. Speedy Gonzales (78)

That would be right. I downloaded a trial version of Videoredo and it wouldn't open a recorded .ts file. Error message was H.264/AVC video streams are not yet supported.

Bummer !!!!!!

770623 2009-05-04 01:43:00 AVI wouldnt record more than 12 minutes (4GIG!!!) and the other settings lag a bit (possibly ram or crap mobo specs)
