| 771039 | 2009-05-05 05:37:00 | It depends on how much dmage has been done. Sometimes plastic bumpers will just pop out, but some of the legacys around that era I think had hard plastic bumpers which cracked and would need plastic welding. I checked around nelson breifly, theres at least 2 available for 93 legacys between $250 and $500, both in "good used condition". A strip and repsray shouldn't cost a lot, $200 maybe? I don't imagine it would have to look perfect. $1000 is ludacris! |

| 771040 | 2009-05-05 05:55:00 | There was no crack in the bumper that I saw. Had a decent look at it. I have no idea what it's made of, plastic or steel but I do think $1000 is just insane! | qazwsxokmijn (102) | ||
| 771041 | 2009-05-05 07:14:00 | I scraped a lady's bumper once when I had just bought a car and it turned out to be longer than I thought...... Cost me $180 and we did not involve our insurance companies. She was parked and I found her in a cafe nearby. She appreciated my honesty and because of it was more cooperative. I would highly recommend anybody who causes damage to a parked car to leave a note or find the owner. It's the right thing to do and they will appreciate it too which might even help the cost. If you get caught driving away that's a pretty bad look and might even lead to criminal charges (note I'm no expert). Another time somebody put a big dent in my front bumper when I was parked. A panelbeater who happened to be a client of mine charged $300 to pop out the dent, plaster and paint it. Normal price would have been about $500, so that gives you a fair indication of what you might be up to. If I'm not mistaken you have the right to shop around and get the job done out of your own pocket and you're sweet as long as the job is done properly. So perhaps get a photo, and get yourself some quotes. Don't let the other party do it, cause they probably don't care how much it costs - they're not paying! You really, really should have 3rd party insurance. I'm 18 and it costs me only about $200 a year after 2 yrs no claims bonus with AMI. A very small price to pay to insure against getting your life messed up by writing off somebody's $500,000 Lamborghini. If you're just starting out on insurance your premium will be around $30 per month. |

| 771042 | 2009-05-05 11:22:00 | Hey George. Of course if I created damage on someone's car I will endeavor to pay for it. While technically this one (and so far only) case is partly someone else's fault (and that guy took off) I still am obligated to pay for the damage I did. I am thinking about third party to cover my name as well....but thing is we have two cars, and I drive either at any one time, so that kinda puts me in a bit of a pickle.....which car should I insure? |

The answer is both...... Remember though if it is insured under your parent's name they can add you to the list of under-25-yr-old permitted drivers, usually for free. I was really talking to the poster above, not you, about taking responsibility. |

| 771044 | 2009-05-06 10:41:00 | The car was a Subaru Legacy 93/94 model. Anybody know how much a dent in the rear bumper would cost to fix? You crashed into a Subaru???? I congratulate you  |

| 771045 | 2009-05-07 01:50:00 | Jesus Christ Jen, ease up on the fricken ban hammer a bit will you. Did you even read this woman's post? Maybe think about getting some insurance in case you bump into someone else's car in the future. This is the problem with insurance companies, they just love people with no insurance! A few years ago, my son accidently bumped a car which was parked in our shared driveway. He made the big mistake of going and telling the owner what had happened. The owner's insurance co refused to pay up and my son, who had no insurance at the time ended up having to pay $700 for the (very minor) damage. He was unemployed and so he paid the owner at $10 per week. A lesson here, NEVER admit liability. If my son hadn't told the owner that he'd done it the Insurance co would have had to pay out. LL I don't know how you can consider this a lesson. If you break something, never own up? The lesson here should be don't crash the damn car. I don't apologise for my previous statement, nor retract it. You seriously need to rethink what you are teaching your son. |

You seriously need to rethink what you are teaching your son. I've also been told that you must never accept responsibility/admit liability at the scene even if it was your fault. That can be sorted out later. All you are meant to do is check if anyone is injured, get the other persons details, insurance etc. See if there are any witnesses and get their details. Report it to the police within 24 hours if anyone is injured. |
