| 770167 | 2009-05-02 05:00:00 | Interesting comment about Bay Audiology - I wonder if there is anyone else with opinions about them? Let me know how you get on. I have always wondered about them. I think it was Sir Ed Hillary that used to advertise for them. |

| 770168 | 2009-05-02 07:18:00 | I need hearing aids for both ears. Been tested and are quite bad. It would be beneficial to me to get them done... however I have some reservations.. Cost, and the fact that it is very peaceful being a bit deaf. Can't hear half what SWMBO says. She says it is her that has my hearing problem, not me! Crowded rooms are a real no-no as well. Aside from that, I was several years in the motor trade and then truck driving. Also in a warehouse where the staff ran all over the place with forklifts. By the sound of it my hearing could be caused by industrial noise over the years. I also have bad tinitus which is a pain in the ear/arse Thanks for the info to me as well guys. Ken :thanks |

| 770170 | 2009-05-02 09:31:00 | I've been to Bay Audiology - hated them and never went back... they were adamant certian brands of hearing aids were better than others, but for me they dont work and it took SO MUCH convincing and appointments to actually change over.... appointments are usually charged alot too in my opinion.. Btw hearing aids - i recommend phonak, brilliant hearing aids, brilliant service Had to send 2 away for repair last week - was fixed and back in 4 days! Good luck |

Tinnitus can also be alleviated somewhat, I believe. Did you know that there is a belief in parts of India that tinnitus is actually the gods talking to you, and so it is welcomed? As a result, the tinnitus actually declines, as it seems to be one of those things that the more you worry about it, the worse it gets. I have mild-ish tinnitus too, but mine sounds like cicadas in the garden, so as I lve in the Waitakeres, it just tends to form normal background noise. |

| 770172 | 2009-05-02 11:34:00 | So did he get his through the public health system, rather than Bay Audiology (for instance)? Received his reply by email: He saved about 65% by waiting, and said you need to go to Bay audiology (or equivalent) and they apply for you. You can speed up the process by getting a doctors certificate to say that the loss of hearing impairs your job. |

Alas, as I am now retired, and my hearing loss is unlikely to have come from the noise of a computer keyboard, :badpc: I suspect I won't qualify. I'll give it a go, though. | Tony (4941) | ||
| 770174 | 2009-05-03 02:06:00 | Hi ya, i have aids as well . :) the first time i got aids i went thro the hospital system, (yonks ago) and got inner ear ones, drove me batty i just couldnt handle the extra noise . . . . . . . . found out the wernt suitable for me later on, but then i had not had much of a discussion about them with the hospital person who fitted them, and so i ended up not wearing them ( at this stage 35% hearing loss) after a long time, i found while retraining and running a motel i was having great difficulting hearing, and we applied for a grant so i could be more effective in my work and answer the phone . . . . . . . . . i missed many calls because i didnt hear them . I now have approx 85% loss . got the grant and had to go out of town to palmy to get them, but before that they resent me to the local hearing association where you can get tested for free . and they had this as a starting point, they retested me in palmy, and decided what style was best . . . i now have behind the ear types, i like them, and they take molds of them and you are also able to get extra ear molds made for when the tubes die and you need to take them to get fixed . . . . . . about 1 yr to 18months a tube lasts, and about every 2 yrs i go back and get them checked and retuned, updated . . . . . . . . mine have a pc in each ear, and at that satge they were about $7000 and i know now they are more . i have stuck with the palmy audioaulogist, and he now has a practice here in wanga's at the local hearing association . i know them really well and go there for tubes and sometimes batteries . i have also had a little to do with bayaudiology and i think it depends on the centre, as i found them helpful, and they work in with our local centre . i get about 200 hours out of the batteries, and buy them in the large multi turning packs and always carry them with me . i clean my ear molds about once a month with a soak, but its no biggy if i dont, they do clog up at wimes, with ear gunk, and are easy to clean . when i got this last pair of aids, it was very close to christmas and we went from the to the palmy plaza . . . . . . . . . . . . by the end of our shopping spree i was climbing the walls, the noise was amazing, and i heard things i hadnt heard for years and years . a dripping tap, a clock ticking, a bird singing, and eventually your brain fades out unwanted noises, and you become used to it, and when you get them you will wonder why you waited so long when you get the right set for you . oh yeah both times i only had to pay a % and that was about $800, because of needed them for work or to hear my children . good luck . :) beetle |

I was with the Anti Tank regiment and we used the 6 pounder anti tank gun, it's known for it's very large "bang". It took time to get satisfaction out of the system, but have finished up with hearing aids courtesy War pensions. Lurking. |
