770063 2009-05-01 21:09:00 Well yes so how long after the forced unbundling until Telecom announced roadside cabinets, nice swifty pulled there. Actually Vodafone is way better for me than Telecom and I woudn't switch even if you paid me. Having said that we wont get decent cellphone prices until there is at least 5 separate providers here. Three will be getting there but you need more to create a truly alternative option. gary67 (56)
770064 2009-05-01 21:18:00 I've always been a Telecom customer (mainly because its reception has been better than Vodafone; we're in the country quite often), and IMO this is just Vodafone trying to win. pcuser42 (130)
770065 2009-05-01 21:18:00 I can't see that they would do this because of being worried:

* Vodafone has a 53 per cent share of NZ mobile phone subscribers to Telecom's 47 per cent.
* Vodafone's share of revenue is 69 per cent to Telecom's 31 per cent.
* A survey of three Auckland secondary schools found Vodafone had 90 per cent of the traffic.
* Telecom's wider coverage makes it popular in rural areas.

The only reason Telecom is popular in rural areas is because it's the only one with coverage.
Once they are the same I can see a lot of en-mass changing to Vodaphone happening.........

770066 2009-05-01 21:20:00 I wouldn't switch to Vodafone as they're too expensive for me. (Why pay to call customer service, read check prepay balance? :() pcuser42 (130)

I'm sure txting vodafone to find out your balance is free.

I think you only pay if you want to talk to a customer service representative.

I do it all the time

770068 2009-05-01 21:29:00 Calling *333 and listening to Jenny (;)) talk is about the only call I do, so I must keep it in order to stay normal. :p pcuser42 (130)
770069 2009-05-01 21:34:00 Well yes so how long after the forced unbundling until Telecom announced roadside cabinets, nice swifty pulled there.

Telecom had announced that their network was moving to roadside cabinets so long before unbundling that some people that should have known better forgot.

770070 2009-05-01 21:45:00 Call drop outs happen of both networks .

What I found interesting (sorry Chill), was the girl on the TV news item last night (TV3?) that was complaining about both call drop outs and late voicemail delivery messages was using an iPhone!!

Now I'm sure Chill - and others - will come rushing in to defend the iPhone, but wasn't this phone renowned for dropping calls when it first arrived? Couldn't her issue have been related to the firmware version she was running?

Besides, I fail to see how the late delivery of a voicemail message (she claimed a week! - and only one message, I believe) could possibly relate to interference between adjacent transmission frequencies!!!

This seems like one major player throwing it's toys out of the cot because the other major player might get some of its business .

Unfortunately for Vodafone, all the noise they're making about the XT network just serves Telecom's interests by helping them embed brand recognition .

Telecom will be loving this!

770071 2009-05-01 21:52:00 telecoms network has been live since november 08 - so if dropouts were increased in december alone surely they'd have complained in january? why wait until 12 days before the actual launch?

vodafone cant say oh we didnt know it was telecoms new network that caused the drop outs... :waughh:

why cant nz companies work together to make good networks - we'd be better off in this case if everyone worked together...but have their own companies etc of course - but wouldnt it be cheaper sharing equipment / sharing reception etc....just different numbers etc...

vodafone has flogged all customer services to egypt and expect to be user pays....and since then the hype about vodafone has died down and telecom has taken over - now vodafone is playing childish games...:(

770072 2009-05-01 21:54:00 voice mail messages dont come a week later - they come as soon as a messge is left - i've noticed with my phone that due to weak reception it takes a while for it to arrive to the phone so why not find out where she lived and see how poor the reception is but its usually only a hour or so as you walk around the house the signal can be stronger...
(standing on the toilet at ours is the best reception spot!!)
