770353 2009-05-02 07:36:00 Hi I been browsing for a while on the net on how to unlock the region for this dvd player, and I found on several pages the same thread of someone giving the code with remote, but apparently they did it con conjunction with a universal remote kameleon, and they dont explain any further. I found a thread in this forum from last year that user "Billy T" managed with a special remote.

Has anybody else tried unlocking this dvd player successfully?

cheers for the help.

770354 2009-05-02 09:23:00 Google is your friend. Heaps of hits on how to do it on there. Bantu (52)
770355 2009-05-03 00:45:00 Yeah trust me I have been googling it, and I have clicked on almost every result and every one takes me pretty much to this:

"I have used a kamaleon 3 for 1 I had at home (it's very useful to control dvd, tv and decoder at the same time).
I guess it works also with all other models of Kamaleon.

To hack the DVDs33 you have to send this sequence with the DVD remote control:
Enter, 6, >=10, << , XXXX, Audio, 8, 1, Subtitle, 4

The problem is that the 5th command (XXX) is not available on the panasonic remote. So you have to use the Kamaleon for sending only that command that we might call just:"1",( instead of XXX).

In short:

On the Kameleon:

Choose [DVD], [Magic] long enoughfor the rabbit, [0490] to set for a Panasonic DVD. Then set up a special command by choosing [Magic] long enough for the rabbit, [994], [Magic] (only one quick press), [143], then choose a key to which the command will be assigned (I chose "1" on the keypad).

then push the sequence using the Panasonic remote control, and the Kameleon:

Enter, 6, >=10, << (on Panasonic)

1 (on Kameleon)

Audio, 8, 1, Subtitle, 4 (on Panasonic) "

But they dont describe anything else about that XXXX command that they did with that Kameleon remote control, thats why I'm trying to target this thread to user Billy T since he managed to unlock it.

cheers,

Bullseye!!

But I can't help you much. In simple terms, you need a special remote control that offers additional commands and also allows multiple-key operating sequences. Then you need the commands specific to your DvD player.

The remotes are expensive to buy and the codes you find on the net do not resemble the very simple sequence I used, so you could be no better off if you buy one. IIRC I had to push three buttons in sequence and that was that, there was nothing to see on the display either, in fact I didn't think anything had happened, but I put in the DvD and away it went.

I borrowed the necessary remote from a mate who operates an electronic service company (I think they need them for special commands to open diagnostic menus as well are region changes) but the remote is useless without the command sequence, and vice versa.

I recommend that you find a local service company that does warranty work on Panasonic then go talk to them. If you are lucky they will cooperate. Tell them you have DvDs from the Warehouse that won't play on our region code, that should get them to help.

It takes less than 10 seconds to make the change, so don't be put off by tales of complicated procedures or labour quotes for an hour's work. Make contact by phone, that way you can get two bites by going in in person, where you might have more luck.

Cheers

770357 2009-05-03 06:00:00 I did my Panasonic but like Billy I borrowed a special remote from my mate who works as a TV tech, took me 5 seconds.

We offer the service to customers who have brought their panasonic DVD from us for free, Just pop into any TV repair company or ask a DVD retailer

770359 2009-05-05 03:51:00 Well I checked in Next Electronics here in auckland and they charge $55 for it, which I think its a bit too much its pretty much half the price of the bloody dvd player and its a 10 secs procedure. Anyways I know its a long shot but I might as well ask, does anyone know a cheaper place I could check or the ideal alternative, anyone that could give me a hand with one of this "special remotes"

cheers,

770360 2009-05-05 04:15:00 $55 that is a rip off, I would put a word in from of rip but I'm not allowed to swear here, Just ask around, try other stores, it takes 2 seconds for them to do it with the remote. radium (8645)
770361 2009-05-05 06:24:00 Yeah exactly I totally agree with you "radium", I guess yeah I'll have to check with other electronics stores. geroglifico (14874)
770362 2009-07-02 06:00:00 I just bought a Kameleon URC 8203 remote for the sole purpose of unlocking my Panasonic S33 DVD player. But no matter how many times I try the above I cannot get it too work. I suspect it has something to do with the the code "143" for setting up a special command...has anyone tried with the 8203 remote?? Pls help! ineedsomehelp (14876)
