1448427 2018-04-14 00:12:00 What is the best way of purchasing Windows 10? I have been running my previous computer with Windows 7. Will it allow me to transfer the license to a completely new computer - new motherboard etc ..

Well I could go back to Windows 7 - lol. Save the money.

Cheers.

1448428 2018-04-14 02:42:00 Simply download Windows 10 ISO. Make either a DVD or USB drive to it.

Install Windows 10 normally onto a blank HDD/ computer. Enter in the Windows 7 key, it should accept it, install and activate. its still working as of a couple of hours ago.

If its a OEM Key, its meant to die with the Motherboard, if Retail- doesn't matter can be transferred.

1448429 2018-04-14 05:17:00 Where do you suggest me purchase the license? Microsoft online after the install or the shop or? Nomad (952)
1448430 2018-04-14 06:54:00 What Wainui is telling you is that you can still do the free upgrade from windows 7 if you follow the correct procedure.

As far as buying it goes, for some reason retail stores like PB tech sell a physical copy cheaper than microsofts online store, makes no sense but it seems to be true.

Ok will try that. I thought the free upgrade expired. On my previous system with that serial key, I have never upgraded to Win10.

The free upgrade through the "standard" channels Eg: having W7 installed and upgrading within it Has expired. But doing a fresh install, still works. The only exception I've struck is if its a pre SP1 version. wainuitech (129)
1448433 2018-04-14 10:52:00 I upgraded within W7 to win10 today and it activated for me ok. Came on an excorp pc on Trademe, but I diidnt look to see what version it was. Johny C (17609)
1448434 2018-04-14 11:36:00 I received the Win7 thru a course that I did, it a MSDN (?). So I just used that system for all those years. The serial key doesn't work when I boot from the USB and install Win10. So I just clicked, I don't have a serial key. Nomad (952)
1448435 2018-04-15 13:51:00 I saw on one of the youtube tech channels, you can buy a legit windows 10 key for $4 or $5. I think it was a recent Tech Yes City video? the guy buys and builds refurbishes pcs. apsattv (7406)

$10 keys, its a REPLACEMENT install key. Only for when you cant find the install key. You have to prove you have a genuine lic .

There are no legit $10 keys for new installs . There are some dodgy online sellers selling dodgy keys .
I dont know why anyone would think M$$$ would be willing to sell $100+ or $300(Office Pro) products for $10ish . They even charge charities considerably more than that .

Chances are that isnt eligible for the free WIn10 upgrade. And that Win7 key probably wont work with 'normal' install disks
You can install & use Win10 without a key (for now)
