The Periodic Table shows us that there are only a limited number of atoms and their combinations which go to make up everything material around us and the Universe in general, if these can combine here on Earth, together with other factors like Sun (star) of a certain size at the correct distance from said planet, to produce the biological system around us to support life, actually only 22 types of atoms are predominant in biological ecosystems, then it's ridiculous to assume that this is the only place in the Universe where such a thing has happened. |

We tend to assume space travel and interplanetary colonisation is a possible and likely scenario if a race advances far enough but we just don't know. Maybe we are the victims of too much optimistic sci-fi. It's entirely conceivable to me that there are millions or more civilisations existing right now and they are all stuck on their home planets just like us. |

Mv = Mo divided by the square root of 1 minus v squared divided by c squared. Mv - mass at any velocity Mo - mass at 0 velocity ie rest mass v - velocity c - speed of light as v ---> c Mv ---> infinity Q.E.D. |

Note they have just used M where I used Mv. |

| 1450365 | 2018-06-14 02:09:00 | Sure but still we tend to assume it's a problem we'll solve. What I'm saying is maybe it isn't, and maybe it's a problem that can't be solved by anyone else either. Perhaps the great filter they speak of is simply that it's not possible to travel these distances. Typically proposed solutions involve warping or compressing space but again this is theoretical and would take huge amounts of energy, maybe more than it's realistic to generate and control. And so, they rolled the hats around ay :). Can't say it's all that surprising. |
