For a number of years the cable has been sending power south as well, when needed but never mind, you can bask in your misconception.

I didn't mention regions as in outside of Auckland. Auckland region, as opposed to Auckland City, which is the CBD. I live in Auckland, I drive past farms all the time.

1449767 2018-05-28 21:58:00 Ok, population of Auckland 1.37 million
Land required to feed a person 0.8 hectares
1370000 x .8 = 1096000 hectares
Do you imagine that Auckland has that area of good productive land? 10960 square kilometers? I seriously doubt it.

Nah, a bunch of them eat at Mcdonalds Mockery where the portions are blessedly small, and based entirely on recycled oil refinery waste, with occasionally sawdust added to improve the flavour and boost nutrition. Those oilwells are only 250mm diameter, thousands of them to the hectare.
What does Karamea produce in the way of food, swamp cress at 2 Kg / Ha in a good year, plus 40 head of eels to the sq KM?
;)
