1448584 2018-04-19 04:37:00 I have tried to duel boot Mint & W10 on an HPG3 Stream notebook. Problem is that Mint will only install with UEFI/GPT on this machine, but W10 Pro refuses & will only install with DOS/MBR. This is very strange as it originally came with W10 Pro installed on UEFI/GPT.

Why is an up to date ISO on a USB stick refusing to install on UEFI/GPT? Every time I try it comes up with "Windows can not install on a GPT type partition table"

1448585 2018-04-19 06:52:00 Is it 32-bit or 64-bit Windows? From memory only 64-bit Windows can boot from GPT. pcuser42 (130)

It is 64-bit Windows 10 Pro, and Mint 64-bit. Mint insists on GPT & W10 MBR, not possible on the same drive. Unfortunately BIOS does not allow UEFI to be disabled, but does support legacy as well. UEFI takes priority over legacy even if you want to boot from an external drive. The stupid part about it is that BIOS shows W10 as the operating system, yet the problem is with Windows. Maybe I should disable legacy support & make a UEFI installation stick.

1448587 2018-04-19 09:41:00 Mint 64 bit can boot from MBR or 64 bit EFI and I am not sure why Mint will only install as EFI only.

What is the hard drive formatted as, MBR or GPT?

Also, does it matter which type of booting?

What you can do is install Windows however it wants to install (MBR) and then install Mint without any boot loader.

Once Mint is installed, you can then create grub in the MBR and it should add the Windows entry into the menu.

1448588 2018-04-19 22:45:00 All sorted. The problem was with the W10 USB stick which for some reason was MBR only. I made another with UEFI & MBR and it worked :) mzee (3324)
