1447777 2018-03-28 00:00:00 Hello Ladies & Gentlemen

I am in need of some technical advice on an Ollee Snowbook which hasn't got enough memory to install the latest Windows update on C: drive. I haven't seen one of these before and my first attempt at trying to create adequate space to divert docs, pics, downloads, etc., to the 128Gb SD card.

I just can't find anything on the Ollee website and another couple of sites that I can't understand because of the terminology used. I was hoping someone may be able to tell me in laymans terms what to do ... smart remarks are not appropriate !

One of the sites was talking about using SD, USB or removable HD memory to extend the C: drive capacity, but I have no idea how to do it and would appreciate someone pointing me in the right direction.

I've included a couple of pics hoping they would help, but if you need any other information I'll try to get it ... there was no manual with it and can't seem to find one on the net.

Thanks in advance peoples ...

1447779 2018-03-28 02:14:00 If you are trying to install an upgrade etc, you need to remove some data from C Drive. Any upgrade to a newer version of windows recommends around 20GB free space. General updates ( totally different to upgrades) still need room, but not as much.

Memory has nothing to do with the amount of storage space. A LOT of confusion comes when people call certain components by their incorrect name. Looking at the 1st picture you have 4GB RAM (memory)

When you go into This Computer from the desktop, does Drive D show up ? If so move any data you have to that drive. ( cut/paste) looking at the second Picture D is empty.

1447780 2018-03-28 02:52:00 Just a add on -- run Disk Cleanup ( NOT Ccleaner) make sure you select System files, tick everything, you'll be surprised how many GB you'll get back. One that WILL take some time is Windows update Cleanup, it looks like it stalls ( but hasn't). Set it going and go have a beer ;) wainuitech (129)
1447781 2018-03-28 05:39:00 32GB drives take very careful management to run and update windows on, I have a machine with a drive that size and just with a freshly updated windows 10 install and the old system files cleaned up it is 50% full.
You really can't afford to store anything on the C: drive and have to keep installed programs to a minimum. Even then I need to do the cleanup as Wainuitech mentioned after any major update.

The usefulness of windows with a C: drive that small is limited in my opinion, I don't think they should sell them.

You can right click system folders or libraries such as "Pictures" choose properties, then choose the location tab, from there you have the option to move it to another location. If you move system folders to a removable drive though and windows is running when the drive is disconnected it can cause problems that can be awkward to fix.
Personally I just manually store everything on another drive and leave windows default locations alone / empty.

Personally, I also can't believe 32GB devices are being sold with win 10. Tell us how many gigs would be freed up if you moved all your own data from C:.

1447783 2018-03-28 21:34:00 Thanks guys, agree 32GB doesn't leave much wiggle room . . . all folders such as docs, pics, etc, have been put onto D: drive, they are all empty as they were on C:

I may have to cut some apps and other non essential rubbish out of the way, apparently I'm around 8GB short of being able to put windows updates / upgrades on to C:

There is the possibility that I may be back to ask another few questions, if not, I've probably chucked the PoS in the bin :badpc:

Have a great weekend Guys & Girls :)

Thanks, reminded me of something else. There's no guarantee that an update won't undo any changes to the default locations and if you move them again you have to be careful not to overwrite/erase anything.
It really is better to leave them alone and just move the files. There's no rule you have to store things in windows default locations after all.

1447785 2018-03-28 22:59:00 Don't know if anyone has suggested this but if you run the update from a Win10 flash drive, it will tell you there's not enough space and offer to use an external drive and temp storage so you can get the update installed. Done this quite a few times with those cheapie laptops with only 32gb storage. wratterus (105)
1447786 2018-03-31 07:42:00 32GB drive is too small for Windows 10. You could convert it to a Chromebook, or install Linux Mint, both are compatible with eMMc drives with UEFI booting, and Mint only takes 6GB on the initial install. You will not lose your W10 registration as it refers to the motherboard, and you can reinstall it later if you wish.

If you are interested in a Chromebook conversion go to:
