1447698 2018-03-25 21:16:00 Facebook question.
Im not a heavy facebook user, I only signed up because for some things I needed to : as support forums are becoming a thing of the past
and now FB is used more than forums. For product support, interest groups , hobby info & meetups , club info.

After resisting for years, I gave in & signed up a year or so ago. I dont upload anything, Im not adding heaps of 'friends" , only bothered adding
3 FB 'friends' just after I joined . I dont accept friend invites, all privacy settings are maxed out . Ublock installed on FF.
No FB plugins

So last week, I noticed an unrelated NZ website had a FB link (in among all the other online ad's )
a little inline box said one of my FB friends (it named them) recommended this website

So are websites now linking back to FB , to get FB info ?
Can random websites link back to my FB a/c somehow , to slurp up my FB info ?
Any way to stop this , without closing the FB a/c ?

1447699 2018-03-25 21:39:00 Facebook is getting their digs in everywhere. They are currently in trouble relating to data collection. ( People complain about Microsoft gathering data, MS are tiny compared to what Facebook does).

How long ago did you change or look at the settings ? They change them sometimes without notice. The best you can do is log in, from the Settings / Privacy - Privacy Settings and Tools. Have a look to see what's allowed and what's not.

1447700 2018-03-25 21:41:00 Yes FB been in the news quite a bit lately on this breach.

The Press had an article the other day about checking what sites are your FB account.

Top Right, settings and apps will show just who is in the background.

What pi**ses me off is the first email in Outlook Mail is an ad, my BH visits more sites than moi, but she doesn't get this stupid ad.

Thats why DT got an extra 50 million votes from FB.

lurking.

ps. get a lot more family history queries on FB which is why I am on there.

lurks.

1447701 2018-03-25 21:51:00 I logged in & found some more security/privacy settings to change. They arnt making this easy to block, thats for sure.
Privacy settings all over the place

Turns out, FB try & track you even after you log out.
If the FB like button shows up on other webpages, you're being tracked.
There's nothing of interest on my FB page, no real data to slurp from my actual FB page.
Only my email adress is real (but hidden) , other info I just made up: in reality I never worked for 'The Ministry of Silly Walks' :-)
I dont want FB following me around though.

Im sure google tracks everything I do on my Android ph. And every Android app now seems to want access to everything .

1447702 2018-03-25 23:23:00 I have just deactivated my FB temporarily, until such time as they get it sorted so that ones privacy is better protected.
However, before I did that I downloaded everything off there into a zip file. Wow, amazing what was in there! Every single thing from when I started using FB back in 2008! Also all my private conversations on Messenger were in there, along with all my contacts, and some people I didn’t know....

Some of it makes funny reading though, and I found a heap of things, all with dates and times, which are actually very useful because I can now refer to them if I forget something.

1447703 2018-03-26 03:15:00 There is no privacy and never has been.
Not even if you select all the "privacy" settings.

For one thing they can (and tell you) anything you post on there is theirs forever to do what they wish, even if you delete it all later (which of course does not remove it from all their servers and backups) and close the account.

1447705 2018-03-26 07:39:00 Yes, I am very well aware that FB does not protect the Privacy of anyone at all. And yes, I am also aware that they keep information on everything you ever joined and ever posted on the site. That is why I have taken a break from FB, am just waiting to see what happens next.... lakewoodlady (103)
