771914 2009-05-07 05:34:00 I have a Canon Powershot S60. It's been a great camera until last week when it produced a set of photos with a red tinge and red flare across them. It then worked fine for a while but is now producing the occasional image with either a red tinge or red lines.

Any idea what the problem is?

Thanks

771915 2009-05-07 06:36:00 Hi Johnny
What have been the typical light conditions ? Indoor, outdoor, both ?
Sunshine, cloud, fluorescent ?

It is a common problem apparently, the CCD sensor (the chip that "see's" the image from the lens) is dying.

Problem details:
Among the CCDs used in the affected products, it has been confirmed that in extremely rare cases, under high-temperature/high-humidity environments, some of the internal wiring comes off.

If this defect occurs, the signal is not output from the CCD correctly when in shooting mode. This results in image abnormalities such as:

* Images do not appear
* Image colors are abnormal
* Images appear distorted

These symptoms can be confirmed on the LCD monitor.
Ring the Canon agent/distributor and see if they will do something for you.

771918 2009-05-07 13:04:00 Perhaps it may be useful to try keeping the lens hood attached when shooting. Does not seem to be the problem ...but worth a try.
