| 771681 | 2009-05-08 07:35:00 | Oh I see. Napier has the only terrain anywhere in the world within a populated area that an armoured vehicle can’t access. Maybe so. The hill is called "Breakneck" by us locals. Recommended for downhill traffic only. Almost as steep as the one in Dunedin and pretty darned narrow. It has a high vertical bank on the left going uphill - maybe 3-4 metres high. The houses on the right are sort of cut into the hillside behind them. I would think you would be OK to take a LAV up or down the hill but would probably not be able to do bugger all but that. Trev is right. We know the hill. Our terrain is a bit different to Tauranga and The Mount, we have lots of thin, mean little gullies with narrow roads and high surrounding sides. Ken |

"Police tonight have rejected reports the gunman at the centre of a siege in Napier is dead, but several cars have moved through the police cordon carrying people not wearing protective clothing. Campbell Live reported that it had heard from sources that the gunman, Jan Molenaar, had died from a self-inflicted would and that ambulances were on the scene. 3 News has been since told the report was incorrect" from www.3news.co.nz |
